Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz sustained a hairline fracture in his ribs during Thursday's preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he is hopeful he will be able to play again this preseason, possibly in the team's preseason finale on Sept. 1.

"Contact's limited here for awhile," Wentz said to The Philadelphia Inquirer. "The goal is hopefully still in the preseason I'll be ready to go, but you never know with these things, so we'll have to see."

Wentz did not participate in practice on Sunday, instead sitting on the sidelines observing other players.

"It hurts pretty good," Wentz said. "It hurts pretty much everything I do, but it'll be all right.

"I'll have to be cleared for the game situations, live contact. The goal is hopefully in preseason I'll be ready to go, but you never know with these things. We'll have to see."

Wentz was the No. 2 pick by the Eagles in the 2016 NFL draft. He was 12–24 for 89 yards and one interception in the Eagles' 17–9 victory over Tampa Bay.
