Jets' Quinnen Williams Arrested Trying to Board Flight With Gun

Jets defensive end Quinnen Williams was arrested Thursday night trying to board a flight out of New York's LaGuardia Airport while carrying a handgun, according to NJ.com.

The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. ET, and Williams was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, Port Authority Police told NJ.com. Police said he was carrying a Glock 19 pistol and had an Alabama permit. Williams, 22, is a native of Birmingham.

A Queens District Attorney's office spokesperson told NJ.com Friday that Williams was issued a desk/court appearance ticket for March 25 and will be formally charged on that date.

The No. 3 pick in the 2019 NFL draft was processed by the Port Authority Police Department before the situation was handed over to the Queens District Attorney's Office.

A spokesperson for the Jets released a statement Friday morning to say the team is aware of the situation.

"We have been in contact with Quinnen Williams and are fully aware of the situation. We will have no additional comment as this is a pending legal matter."

Williams's attorney, Alex Spiro, also issued a statement through his agent Nicole Lynn.

"Mr. Williams respects and follows the law. There was allegedly a technical issue with the manner in which the lawfully owned firearm was stored–and we expect the matter to be resolved shortly."

Port Authority Police spokesperson Lenis Rodriguez told CNN that Williams's gun was discovered at a Delta check-in counter and was not loaded.

Williams played in 13 games last season, recording 28 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. He starred at the University of Alabama before entering the NFL.
