Why Tyler Boyd is the Bengals receiver to own in fantasy football
There is no doubt that the Cincinnati Bengals have a pair of talented receivers in A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd. Green has been considered among the best receivers in the league for most of his 8-year NFL career.
However, is Tyler Boyd now the Bengals receiver to own in fantasy football?
A.J. Green has no shortage of accomplishments. He has 6 seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards under his belt, and has managed 63 touchdowns since entering the league in 2011.
However, the tables are turning in Cincinnati, and it could be Tyler Boyd's time to shine.
Boyd was a former 2nd round draft choice by the Bengals in 2016. He garnered just 3 starts in his first 26 NFL games, and managed just 22 catches for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns in his second season.
However, Boyd broke out in a big way during his third year in the league. He was able to earn 76 receptions for 1,028 yards and 7 touchdowns in just 14 games.
After exploding in his third season, Boyd has a chance to supplant A.J. Green as the number one option in Cincinnati.
There are other reasons why this might be the case as well. Zac Taylor is likely to implement an offense similar to what he was a part of under Sean McVay in Los Angeles. Targets were very evenly distributed to Rams receivers and it was hard to predict whether Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods, or Cooper Kupp would lead the team in receiving on any given week.
A.J. Green has also had some pretty major health concerns, and he is already expected to miss at least a 'couple games' to start the season.
Once the Bengals get the ball rolling this season, it will be interesting to see which receiver will be the one to own in fantasy football. Tyler Boyd might be a safer play than A.J. Green this year.
