Update: Bengals WR A.J. Green expected to miss more time than originally thought
By: Taylor Cornell
Bengals fans were dealt a bit of a blow, hours before the team even kicks off against the Steelers on Monday Night Football. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green is expected to miss at least three more games before making his 2019 debut.
After originally injuring his ankle in late-July, the immediate timetable for his return was somewhat unknown. Reports of a 6-8 week absence emerged, followed then by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting that A.J. would likely miss some regular-season games.
Since then, we have seen Green shed the walking boot and begin some work on the rehab field, only to have Zac Taylor to note within the last week that there is no timetable for Green’s return. Bengals fans should not have reasonably expected Green to return even next week when Cincinnati takes on the Arizona Cardinals at Paul Brown Stadium, considering the All-Pro wide receiver has yet to step foot on the practice field.
However, today’s update casts some doubt that Green will make a return anytime soon, and depending on how the Bengals are performing he may be held out longer to ensure optimal health. The Bengals do have a Week 9 bye, and as such may aim for a November 10th return at home against divisional foe Baltimore.
