Bengals Bench Andy Dalton: Should They Trade Him?

Tommy Jaggi

The NFL trade deadline ends at 4:00 PM Eastern Time today, but perhaps the Bengals should make a move before then. Adam Schefter of ESPN recently reported that the Cincinnati Bengals are moving on from Andy Dalton:

In his place, head coach Zac Taylor has elected to run with unproven, fourth-round rookie Ryan Finley.

Apparently, Taylor has had enough. The young head coach is out to prove that he can win football games, and he isn't getting enough out of his veteran signal-caller. But instead of benching the former 3-time Pro Bowl quarterback, would the Bengals be open to trading him instead?

Zac Taylor and the front office now have just hours to decide what to do with Andy Dalton. It's unlikely a deal will get done so quickly before the clock runs out on the NFL trade deadline, but if the Bengals really are moving on, they could look for some addition draft compensation by moving Andy Dalton now.

Dalton is under contract through the 2020 season. Cincinnati doesn't often make moves, but perhaps they will make an exception here.

I am a big Andy Dalton fan no he should not be traded he is the best quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals. The coach is unfair for benching him his is the best quarterback Cincinnati has no one could ever replace him 😥

No, maybe in the offseason but not now

Definitely think they should. Helps in every area possible, but I know it’s tough to do that to someone that has represented the organization for so long

I’m glad cutting him next year is zero dead cap but it’d be nice to get something for the guy you know you won’t be starting the rest of the season, a lost season at that

The idea of Dalton being their guy has come and gone. I agree 100% that they might as well get some type of compensation for him. The Bears are in desperate need of quarterback help. The question is how much they value Dalton; how much do they view him as an upgrade.

Dalton to the bears would be nice! But what an end of an era for the Cincinnati.

I don't expect them to move Dalton, but it makes some sense. Bengals aren't winning and they could get some compensation for him.
