Bengals still hopeful Jonah Williams will play in 2019

The news of Jonah Williams' torn labrum was a devastating blow to Bengals fans. Cincinnati has not been good in the first round over the past five years, and have gotten underwhelming performances out of players like Cedric Ogbuehi, Billy Price, and John Ross.

Jonah Williams was deemed an excellent draft choice by the Bengals this year, and there were many draft analysts who believed he would be off the board before pick 11 overall.

Despite the praise the Bengals received for landing a player like Jonah Williams, his season may be coming to an end. However, there are some who believe that Williams may be able to make a comeback as soon as this season.

Geoff Hobson of had this to say about the Jonah Williams situation:

It’s a longshot, but the Bengals haven’t given up on the idea of rookie left tackle Jonah Williams playing late in the year. His torn labrum may very well be a season-ender, but you could see them keeping him on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) at the start of the season rather ending his season on injured reserve in order to keep their proverbial options open.

Though it's unlikely Williams could make this turnaround, it's not impossible. Terron Armstead of the Saints made this recovery in a similar time frame.

However, for Jonah Williams to have any shot of returning, the Bengals would have to be a playoff caliber team heading into the back half of the season. The AFC North seems to be loaded this year, and NFL analysts are already penciling the Bengals into 4th place in the division.

A lot can happen until then, and Cincinnati could prove some doubters wrong. However, there is so sense rushing Williams back to the field until he makes a full recovery.

The Bengals still have some rebuilding to do under Zac Taylor, and Jonah Williams stands to be one of the most important pieces to the puzzle moving forward.

Unless this is a playoff season, which i don't think it is, Williams shouldn't see the field. I don't get why they'd rush him back.

I would play it cautious with Williams this season. He should have a bright future ahead of him. No sense in risking his health this year.
