Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman Put Up 'Blutarsky' Rating Against Ravens: 0.0

Bucky Gleason

Nathan Petermans performance for the Buffalo Bills was made worse by a lack of support from his teammates before he was pulled Sunday from the blowout loss to the Ravens, but lets not ignore the obvious. He was terrible on his own, too.

The numbers for Peterman in his brief NFL career are staggering and particularly bad when it comes to passer rating. He has played five regular-season games since the Bills selected him in the fifth round before last season. Its a small sample size, but he had a 25.7 rating.

By comparison, the average rating for all NFL quarterbacks who played during the 2017 season was 85.1, according to profootballreference.com. In Week One, it was 82.3, a dip likely was caused by the first game and poor weather conditions in various part of the country Sunday.

Bills fans are well aware that Peterman had a disastrous first start last season in which he was 6 of 14 for 66 yards and threw five interceptions against the Chargers. His passer rating for that game was 17.9, embarrassingly low but understandable considering all the picks.

This is hard to fathom, but his passer rating couldnt get any worse than it was Sunday in the 47-3 loss to the Ravens. Peterman completed 5 of 18 passes for 24 yards with two interceptions dropping him to a Blutarsky-like passer rating of 0.0 for the game.

Yes, thats zero-point-zero.

According to Rodger Sherman of theringer.com, his passer rating actually improved when he threw an incomplete pass.

Let me be clear about Peterman: The grisly passing rating was not entirely his fault. The Bills offensive line gave him very little time. Their receivers had a difficult time getting open. The running game was shut down, which allowed the Ravens to crank up the pressure on the quarterback.

In fact, there might not be another quarterback in the history of the game who would have saved the Bills on Sunday. Rookie Josh Allen had his hands full, too, during garbage time. But its also true that Peterman did little to help his own cause.
