Bucs place CB Harris on IR, promote CB Elliott
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed De'Vante Harris on injured reserve and promoted fellow cornerback Javien Elliott from the practice squad, the team announced Saturday.
Harris, who was nursing a hamstring injury, was signed last month after being released by the New Orleans Saints.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Harris practiced in full throughout the week before sitting out Friday's session.
The Buccaneers made the move, one day before they open the season against the NFC South-rival Saints. Tampa Bay cornerback Brent Grimes is listed as doubtful for that road contest with a groin injury.
Harris spent the past two seasons with New Orleans after signing with the Saints in 2016 as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M.
The 25-year-old Harris appeared in 21 games over the past two years, making one start in each season. He had 18 tackles and two passes defensed in 2017.
Harris has collected 30 tackles and one fumble recovery in two NFL seasons.
Elliott recorded 15 tackles and one pass defensed in 21 career games with the Buccaneers over the last two seasons. The 5-11, 176-pound Elliott played collegiately at Florida State and is a native of Panama City, Fla.
The 25-year-old Elliott had five tackles in 15 games with Tampa Bay in 2017.
