The 2023 offseason has been a very interesting one for the Los Angeles Chargers as they sought to address a number of needs including some WR depth, upgrades on the defensive and offensive lines, and also have a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore.

It will be super important during the early OTA's that are happening right now for this group to get acclimated and comfortable with their new system. A culture change was very necessary after the way LA's season ended in 2022 and even though the main core of talent is returning, there are still some red flags surrounding the Bolts that we'll have to keep a close eye on.

The tight end position is one of course as the Chargers' front office didn't believe the 2023 draft board had any that would suit their franchise and did not end up picking one up. Instead, Quentin Johnston was selected in the first round and a number of his TCU teammates followed.

Therefore, the attention has now shifted to safety. Derwin James has held down the spot for some time now and has improved each year but exerts from CBS Sports would like to see another addition to the squad.

"Derwin James is a tone-setter on the back end, but Brandon Staley is otherwise counting on former sixth-rounder Alohi Gilman, who's never been a full-time starter, to step in and elevate a talented but mercurial secondary. The free agent pickings may be slim, but if L.A. intends to survive the AFC fight, it could stand to add reinforcements."

There are still a number of safety options available on the open market right now so as these next couple of months go by and LA sees how the team is progressing in OTA's, they'll weigh their choices.
