They say that opposites attract but for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and Hall of Famer Dan Fouts, it's more about the similarities. Both men played at Oregon in college and went on to be stars with the Chargers. They are fans of each other and got to catch up at the Chargers Invitational at Rolling Hills Country Club earlier this week.

Fouts spoke about how excited he is to see Herbert this coming season and to see the growth that he has made as a player.

"Each year you learn a little bit and his learning curve is pretty good," Fouts said. "He's so brilliant just as a person. And a good player, obviously.

Herbert has taken the league by storm since entering in 2020 and he is one of the biggest reasons as to why people are so high on the Chargers this coming season. His ability to throw the ball all around the field and place the ball where his receivers want it are just some of the skills he possesses.

Herbert played through injuries last season but still managed to get the Chargers into the postseason. He still threw for 4,739 yards and 25 touchdowns during the season and Fouts is hopeful that the young quarterback can stay healthy this season.

"I think the world of him, really. I know he's going to get healthy and hopefully he can stay healthy throughout the year," Fouts said. "He battled through injuries last year and a lot of people didn't realize how severe that was."

The two men have a shared appreciation for one another and it shows whenever they have the chance to meet up. For Herbert, it must be nice to have a veteran speak so highly about him and support him.

The Chargers head into 2023 with something to prove and Herbert himself looks to get even better. Fouts will be watching and hopefully the Chargers can make him proud.
