Chiefs' Defense Will Rely On Secondary's Versatility During L'Jarius Sneed's Absence

The Kansas City Chiefs' defensive secondary took another hit Wednesday as cornerback L'Jarius Sneed landed on the injured reserve with a broken collarbone. Arrowhead Report's Tucker Franklin and Jordan Foote discuss the secondary's options on today's Roughing the Kicker podcast.

The Kansas City Chiefs' defensive secondary took another hit Wednesday as rookie cornerback L'Jarius Sneed landed on the injured reserve with a broken collarbone.

But the Chiefs' secondary is no stranger to this situation before. Injuries to Charvarius Ward and Antonio Hamilton along with a four-game suspension to Bashaud Breeland has put Kansas City in a tricky spot already this season.

That's just one of many topics discussed on today's Roughing the Kicker podcast with Arrowhead Report's Jordan Foote. We answer some of the questions that were sent to us by our Most Valuable Listeners (MVLs) and rate your takes ahead of Week 4.

I was disappointed when I heard the news about Sneed. He has been playing well in the vacancies left by both Breeland and Ward. With the secondary continuing to take a beating, one of the more common questions we received in preparation for the show was to the tune of "Who's going to play for Sneed against the Patriots this week?"

I did my best to answer the question the best that I could, but it won't be just one person filling in for Sneed. The Chiefs secondary prides themself in their versatility. Safety Tyrann Mathieu plays well in the slot so we could see him move down into that role again.

When Mathieu rolls down, expect to see any combination or rotation of Juan Thornhill, Tedric Thompson and Daniel Sorensen at the safety positions.

Ward should be fully back as he was a full participant in the Chiefs' practice Wednesday. The corner did get some much-needed reps in Baltimore after Sneed left the game. Fenton will more than likely be on the other side, as he has played fantastic in the recent weeks.

While this isn't a fun territory to be in, it's familiar to Spagnuolo and company. They should be able to right the ship with the pieces they have against New England on Sunday.
