What If Commanders Drafted Browns' Wyatt Teller in 2018?

The Washington Commanders offensive line might not have as many issues if they took Wyatt Teller in the 2018 NFL Draft.

After improving the trenches defensively in the 2018 draft by taking defensive tackle Daron Payne, the Washington Commanders went to the other side of the ball in a re-draft.

With the No. 13 pick, the Commanders took two-time Pro Bowl offensive guard for the Cleveland Browns, Wyatt Teller.

Teller has also made the Second-Team All-Pro twice (2020, 2021).

Teller was the second offensive guard taken in the draft. Indianapolis Colts offensive guard Quenton Nelson was the first lineman off the board and went No. 5 to the Denver Broncos - one pick before when he was actually taken in 2018.

Teller was drafted with the No. 166 pick in 2018 by the Buffalo Bills. After starting seven games in his rookie season, Teller was traded to Cleveland for two late-round picks, where he's developed into one of the best guards in football.

"By the midway point of his debut season in Cleveland, Teller was starting for the Browns," Bleacher Report writes. "In 2021, he earned the first of two Pro Bowl trips and a fat contract extension. Now, he's considered perhaps the best guard in the league not named Quenton Nelson."

Payne saw a big jump from where he was taken in 2018, as he went No. 3 overall to the New York Jets

"Payne is an excellent lineman," Bleacher Report writes. "It took Payne a little while to truly hit his stride, but hit it he has."

Other NFL-altering picks were quarterback Josh Allen getting drafted first overall by the Browns and the New York Giants drafting quarterback Lamar Jackson at No. 2. Quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Saquon Barkley were the original picks, respectively.

While Teller would improve a Commanders' offensive line that remains a big question mark, the franchise made the right pick the first time around by taking Payne.
