FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys may be about ready to re-add some beef to their offensive and defensive lines. Call this a "pre-practice prediction, but at Dallas reconvenes for today's Wednesday practice in preparation for a weekend visit to the New York Jets, at least two down-in-the-trenches starters could return.
One big boost figures to come from 1-tech defensive tackle Antwaun Woods, who has been missing with a knee injury. Woods attempted to persuade the medical staff to allow him to play in what would be a 34-24 loss to Green Bay last week - and he even participated in last Friday's practice at some level. But the Cowboys believe the rest will have been most beneficial ... and he's hoping to practice today.
Meanwhile, along the offensive line, Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith, who injured his ankle on the final series in the 12-10 loss at New Orleans two weeks ago, was moving last week without the walking boot and over thr weekend was doing on-field training with the medical staff. A return to practice today would be a major boost for the 3-2 Cowboys.
And maybe later in the week, another boost, from right tackle La’el Collins,
who left Sunday’s loss to the Packers with what was termed an MCL sprain.
We're predicting that today, the first-team right tackle in practice will be swing tackle Cameron Fleming. But if Tyron is at left tackle ... and if Collins is storming back, too ... the Cowboys look all-the-more-likely to get healthy against the winless Jets.
