Cowboys SCOOP: Micah Parsons Won’t Wear No. 0; Jayron Kearse Wins with NFL Rule Change 'OFFICIAL'

PHOENIX - During the NFL Annual Owners Meetings here in Phoenix on Tuesday, the league leadership voted to allow players to wear the No. 0.

Fun stuff! So now. All positions, except for offensive and defensive linemen, can now wear zero on their jerseys.

In response to this news, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons announced that he's switching to No. 0.

"Im switching!! Agent 0 coming soon!" Parsons wrote on Twitter.

Ah, not so fast, young man.

Micah has two NFL seasons under his belt. So seniority - or maybe a faster phone-dialing finger? - means that if a vet wants it …

Yup. CowboysSI.com is told that safety Jayron Kearse called the proper folks back home at The Star in Frisco to lay claim to the cool new look.

We were told by a Cowboys source right after the NFL announcement that there might be a flood of players’ calls to the equipment room trying to put in a claim.

And Kearse, previously No. 27, wins.

But Micah is a winner as well, in this sense:

When Jaylon Smith switched into No. 9 two years ago, by league rule he had to buy up all the existing stock of his old jerseys. That cost him $400,000. An NFL source guesstimates that in the case of Micah, his No. 11 merchandise buyout cost might be … $1,000,000.

That’s was going to be LOT of zeroes for one zero.

(UPDATE: On Friday, the Cowboys announced the "official'' change. But to Kearse and Parsons, it was official when we reported it on Tuesday.)
