Florio Calls For NFL Action Against Dez Workouts With Cowboys Dak & Zeke

Mike Fisher

FRISCO - A trio of NFL stars associated with the Dallas Cowboys should be cited by the league - and maybe law-enforcement officials - for their continued "flaunting'' of CDC recommendations and local laws banning gathering due the COVID-19 crisis, says Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

"If you've got players who are violating the local laws that say 'Thou shall stay home during this pandemic,' and they are both creating a real risk of spreading the virus, and sending a horrible message to others who may be influenced to do the same thing. I would like to see the NFL do something," Florio said on 105.3 The Fan's "Shan and RJ" on Wednesday.

The message-senders: Dez Bryant, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.

There are some precise details in Florio's presentation here that one could quibble with. One, it's not clear what the punishment would be, certainly not from an NFL perspective. Two, Bryant is not an NFL employee; he's not presently subject to the league's guidelines. (Additionally, Dak Prescott is not under contract, so we're not sure what jurisdiction the league has over him.)

And three, oddly, while Florio mentions that ex-Cowboy Dez Bryant and present Cowboys QB Dak Prescott have been front-and-center in their Twitter-released videos, he fails to mention that, as we reported earlier this week, Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is also part of the workout group at what we opted to label "an undisclosed Dallas location.''

But Florio's general point is the right one ... and the same one we made last week, when Bryant and company first publicized his workout with Prescott. Beyond being unsafe for them to do it, and beyond being unsafe for anybody else they come in contact with after the workout, their high-profile exhibitions send an awful behavior message to people, young and old, who might take their cues from football stars.

Florio at Pro Football Talk wrote a scathing piece on how Prescott and Bryant "continue to flaunt their defiance of rules that have caused millions to change their habits dramatically."

What is NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to do?

Said Florio: "Even if you're not going to suspend anyone or fine anyone under the personal conduct policy. I want the commissioner to post a video, to issue a statement, telling all players who are in the NFL or hope to be back like Dez Bryant, that they must comply with all applicable state and local requirements as what they should and shouldn't be doing during this pandemic."

Personal responsibility, not Goodell responsibility. If some kid(s) copy such behavior parents should use as a teaching opportunity to point out wannabe millionaires lack of. Currently personal responsibility appears to be sorely lacking in many venues.

Why shouldn't they work out together? There are only the 3 of them & they are more than 6 feet apart! You can not be made to go nowhere or do nothing! What laws are they breaking?

Because there’s a pandemic that is killing folks and being spread. because of jerks like what the cowboys are doing. Then again it’s the Cowboys, they’ve been insignificant since after the 96 SuperBowl.

Apparently you didn't watch any of the videos. There is way more than 3 people and they do not maintain a distance of 6 ft. 🤔

I agree....also, all of the new ordinances that I see allow you to get outside and exercise. That appears to be what they are doing. This is nothing that couldn't be done in any local neighborhood.

Glorious needs to stop hating. Last I checked this is America and people have the right to be free. Look I think that we should all do what we can to be safe but I also believe in a person right to chose what they want to do. I saw their workout. It looks the same as others in my neighborhood jogging, walking and playing catch together. It is beginning to feel like everyone has the right to decided what is safe for everyone else. Why do you keep yourself safe, Florio and mind your own business

What a meely mouth POS Florio is. Screw him and screw SI. This is not a dictatorship. You have a POS media guy calling for commissioner and/or law enforcement to step in where guys are throwing the football. Stay in your lane you piece of garbage. Disgusting.

Florio is both arrogant and superficial on this issue. First, I’m sure he has had nothing to say about the countless number of public officials who congregate in front in cameras to update us on the Coronavirus, Trump included. Whether for a good purpose or not, they, not a couple of football players, hold a greater responsibility for modeling the right behavior during this pandemic.

Also, most regulations (CDC) allow 10 or fewer people to congregate in any one place. To me, he is attempting to grab some cheap publicity to increase his viewership.

Nothing to see here.

They aren't the only NFL players working out with each other. So why just target the Cowboys players.

It's amazing how many people are trying to justify their actions. The stay at home order is very specific and our players are not immune to that and are being disrespectful to all of us essential workers who can be directly affected by others not following the order.

Florio & Mike Fisher shouldn't have a voice in this matter when obviously 90% of ppl disagree with their bs shaming attempt. Media again trying to manipulate Americans & how we observe the world around us.. last I checked you can have up to 10 ppl in a group in Texas. Regardless your fear mongering is just making things worse, they need to work out & as much as you wanna see them as role models to US they are individuals who like most Americans aren't buying your garbage. I think it's a good message to Americans that we can get through this together, have a good time & still be safe. This article was trash & the only ones who should be ashamed have already been mentioned.

Florio needs to lighten up and mind his business. They aren’t violating the CDC guideline that recommends gatherings of 10 or fewer people. Calling for disciplinary measures by the NFL and local authorities is outrageous and absurd. America is not a dictatorship for crying out loud.

I know that you all are joking right. Just to troll and shit. You think that this is trying to get an advantage against the cowboys? This is just trying to make a name for themselves? Or even that someone holds a grudge? This is not about being fare. This is not about how many hits someone get with social media. This is really not at all about these three guys going to the park to throw the ball around. Some of you all are getting things mixed up. This has already killed not infected, killed a smig under 17,000 yes let it sink in and that is not 1700 that 17,000 and it has not even begun to spike in the US. Oh and little under 96,000 world wide. This sh*t is real.

I know what you are saying, these are you young, strong men. They will be fine. But let’s make sure this is perfectly clear, the stay at home recommendation/law is not for these 3 guys, it for the rest of us who could die due to this virus.

I know you are saying what are the chances? This will stop being a problem when it gets below a 1:1 ratio. What that means is on average that if one person get it they only infect one other person. Right now it’s just over 2. You are saying to yourself, that’s not too bad. Those number I put up at the top, multiply that by just 2. So say one of your “boys” some how gets at this practice, on the way home he gets some gas for the car since it is so cheap(there is a reason it’s so cheap). Then he goes into the station to get a water. No not water so he puts it back. Goes to the checkout line, and we know how people observe the 6 ft rule in a gas station, pays for his stuff and leaves. How many times do you think this guy might have contaminated something. Let’s count, one obviously the pump that on is easy, two the water bottle, no wait the handle to the fridge. Number 4 is the handle to the Gatorade. Now comes the fun part. When going to pay he takes out some cash and pays for it. Lady puts contaminated bill into register, ladies gloves are now contaminated so everything that she handles with those gloves is contaminated. Are we getting the idea. The money given to someone as change and it all starts over again. Wait, his wife calls and wants you to pick up a couple of grapefruits before you get home. You can see out of hand this could get?

Some have said imagine if you had glitter on your hands and everything you touch now has glitter on it. Except if it infects someone it makes billions of other little pieces of glitter even if that person does not even get sick. So, yes they were young and dumb. Yes, currently Texas has a low amount of infected compared to its population. And also yes, these guys should at the very least apologize and do a public service announcement saying don’t do what I did cause it’s wrong. Because anywhere that chain, someone else can pick up the glitter take it home and it kill grandma or the 5 year old or the senior that was supposed to graduate this year or that husband, wife, sister, brother, kids, aunts, uncles or even best friends just because the “boys” wanted to throw the ball around. Or the “girls” wanted to get together for some wine. And even the kid that is driving you crazy because he wants to go to the park. I don’t care if you are a schmuck like me, an athlete, a politician, a celebrity because the virus does not care. If you want to Russian roulette with your own life that’s fine. But you also putting the lives of a whole lot of others on the line.
