Winning The NFC East: Easy For Cowboys?

On paper, winning the NFC East - the worst division in football last season - has never been easier.

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, COO Stephen Jones and NFL oddsmakers have something in common…

Which team will win the NFC East in 2021? If you ask Prescott or Jones if the Cowboys are the best team in the division, they each give a no-hesitation answer.

“Yes,” said Prescott. “Absolutely,” said Jones.

Oddmakers also pick the Cowboys are the favorite to win the division in the most recent odds, According to Bet MGM.

  • Dallas Cowboys: +105
  • Washington Football Team +320
  • Philadelphia Eagles +400
  • New York Giants +450

Washington, the reigning champions, saw a slight increase in odds to win the NFC East after signing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and adding Curtis Samuel, and William Jackson III to the roster… But it hardly moved the needle. It appears oddsmakers don’t believe that that the 38-year-old quarterback will make as big of a difference as others are making it out to be.

Last season, Washington won largely on the back of their stout defense and there is still reason for optimism thanks to Chase Young, Terry McLaurin and Daron Payne. The team, who was picked last to win the division in 2020, is trending up.

However, with Prescott under center in 2021, expectations for the Cowboys is high again. The 27-year-old went down with a season-ending ankle injury in week five last season, Prescott was on pace for a record-breaking season with 1,856 yards with nine touchdowns. So far, Prescott’s rehab has been encouraging that he will be back and “better than ever” for the season.
