Ryan Fitzpatrick in, Josh Rosen out for Miami

Dolphins coach Brian Flores is going back to the veteran for the game against the Buffalo Bills

Well, that didn't last long.

Josh Rosen, acquired this offseason for a second-round pick, waited throughout Miami Dolphins training camp and their first two blowout losses to supplant journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback.

Now, after losses to Dallas, Los Angeles (Chargers) and Washington, Rosen will have to wait again. Brian Flores, the Dolphins' first year coach, has named Fitzpatrick the starter for Miami's visit to Buffalo. This comes after Rosen struggled terribly against the Redskins -- albeit under relentless pressure -- and Fitzpatrick led the Dolphins back to within 17-16 before a two-point conversion with six seconds left failed.

Rosen has completed just 53.2 percent of his passes, for an anemic 52.0 rating. This has been the case even though he has continued to look for checkdowns.

What does this mean for the future? Well, the Dolphins were all in for a quarterback this offseason anyway. But they swapped a significant enough asset for Rosen that it seemed likely that he would get a chance to compete with a rookie next season, and perhaps be the bridge quarterback. It's hard to see that now. Flores has clearly been skeptical about Rosen's command of the offense, and while Rosen was under challenging circumstances, he didn't do enough to elevate the players around him.

More on this later.
