Kyle Patterson has exemplary size, good arm length, and slightly above average athleticism to be an effective pass catcher and satisfactory run blocker. His limited opportunities in the passing game in college has shown enough that he could be a factor as a pass catcher with continued development
Evaluation:
Kyle Patterson possesses ideal size and arm length for the position. He also has a solid frame where he can add more weight and strength to block bigger defenders at the next level. Patterson is a solid blocker against DBs when lined up in the slot as he uses his superior size to outmatch defenders. When lined up inline or offset, he is inconsistent blocking physical linebackers or defensive lineman who can toss him around, eclipsing his strength. He shows the ability to climb levels of the defense by helping double team a defensive lineman then scale up to a linebacker. Patterson is a more comfortable blocker in a 2 point stance than a 3 point stance. In a 3 point stance, he is prone to leaning too far forward and putting his head down where defenders, who line up hat to hat, can use his imbalance against him by performing a swim move or slapping down his hands to get around him. When engaged with a defensive lineman, he constantly runs his feet to move back blockers and seal the edge. Patterson has a tendency to be a high blocker and stronger opponents can utilize that against him as he does not anchor to hold the point of attack. In space, quicker defensive backs can dip their shoulders going under his blocking attempting and avoiding him entirely - this can be overcome with improved and consistent footwork and blocking lower against smaller defenders. He shows good balance, but defenders can use his momentum against him as his size makes it more difficult to change direction quick enough versus small defenders. In the passing game, Patterson has a quick first step and gets up the field quickly. He is physical at the top of his routes and takes advantage of his size creating separation with his arm length versus defensive backs. As a route runner with his size, he does not get out of breaks quickly yet he does exhibit quality foot speed and change of direction. Patterson has an above average catch radius capable of catching passes away from his body as well as diving for throws. In limited action, he shows the ability to sit in open zones, come back to the quarterback, and make himself open when needed. As a pass catcher, Patterson displays quality and reliant hands in addition to catching the ball in traffic with defenders draped around him. Given a bigger opportunity, Patterson will work hard and do everything in his power to seize it. With a good combine, Patterson can prove himself as an early Day 3 selection.

Originally from Gilbert, Arizona. Attended Perry High School. He played at Air Force. During the shortened 2020 season, he started in five games, totaling twelve receptions, 205 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns, all of which ranked first on the team. As a junior, he started four games before suffering an injury that kept him out for the rest of the season. During his senior season, he played in seven games, totaling three receptions and thirty two receiving yards.
