WATCH: Atlanta Falcons should consider making "throwback" uniforms permanent
Very few things get fans as excited as throwback uniforms. On Monday, the Falcons announced they will be donning their all-black throwback unis three times in 2019 -- first against the the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 29. The other two will be against the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 27 and then against the New Orleans Saints on Thanksgiving.
That means in three of Atlanta's eight games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this year, they will be going retro.
The latest Falcons throwback uniform is a mix and match from different eras. While the all-black jersey and black helmet with the original Falcon bird is from the early 1990's, they wore that combo with silver pants at that time. The Falcons throwback uniforms for those three homes games will feature white pants with red and black trim, which is the style Atlanta wore during the late 1960's and early 1970's.
In many ways, this is the best of both worlds, as the franchise took the best of all their past uniforms and added them together to make his combination, which they've been wearing the last few seasons.
Personally, I hope the fan base responses well to the Falcons wearing this uniform combo three times this fall. Not that the current uniforms are bad, but I prefer the solid black jerseys and white pants with the neat trim. I would totally be in favor of the team wearing them 100 percent of the time and perhaps mixing in the red helmet as part of a "throwback Sunday."
From what I've seen in fan chat rooms and on Twitter, others would agree. These uniforms aren't just nostalgic, the 1990's jerseys and 1960's pants together make up the best uniform in franchise history.
