GAMEDAY Live Blog/Open Thread: Giants at Jets | Week 10

Follow along with our live blog, featuring updates, analysis, stats and much more from today's Giants-Jets game.

This weekend's game between the Giants and Jets has a bit of a Super Bowl feel to it.

Okay, more like "No Man's Bowl" because that's where both of these teams find their respective 2019 seasons at the moment. The Giants have two wins to their name but are currently on a five-game slide. The Jets have just one win and have lost their last three (including last week's debacle against the tanking Miami Dolphins).

Someone is going to snap their losing streak. And someone is going to walk away with bragging rights which in the end mean absolutely nothing other than to serve as a consolation in knowing that the other local team has it far worse.

If the losing team happens to be the Giants, well, the fall-out just might be more interesting to watch. Would team ownership make a change mid-season? Probably not at head coach, though the same probably can't be said about the defensive coordinator.

Can the Giants finally snap their five-game losing streak against their MetLife Stadium neighbors? Will the black cat make another cameo? Join us for NYJvsNYG here in our weekly GAMEDAY Open Thread. November 10, 2019: MetLife Stadium decked out in Jets Green prior to the New York Giants - New York Jets regular season game.

Good morning, Happy game day!

The NFL is kicking off its annual "Salute to Service" campaign this month. I saw loads of military personnel from all the branches as I came into the stadium. To those reading today's blog, Thank you for your service.

Salute to Service Pin

NFL Salute to Service kicks off this week.

Gameday Inactives

Spencer Pulley will start for Jon Halapio at center; Nick Gates for Mike Remmers at right tackle; Kaden Smith will start for Evan Engram at tight end and Darius Slayton will start for Sterling Shepard at receiver.

Here is the Jets inactive list.

From Pro Football Focus

I fully expect the Jets to bring the heat against Daniel Jones today. but I also think this week the Giants might be a little better equipped to handle the twists, stunts, and blitzes.

First Quarter

7:25: The Giants defense is fast proving to be a cure for what ails any team. Sam Darnold opens the drive 7 of 7, the Jets manage to get three big plays of 10+ yards and Markus Golden gets a big penalty to give the Jets a fresh set of downs.

And if that's not bad enough, Sam Darnold scores on a 2-yard touchdown run.

6:27: Daniel Jones sacked at NYG 20 by Jamal Adams after Saquon Barkley misses another blitz pickup. Giants recover after losing 10 and have to punt from their own end zone.

3:08: Markus Golden got to Darnold, but he managed to get it out to Robby Anderson for 11 yards and a first down.

1:44: Darnold pass short middle to  Jamison Crowder for 23 yards, Crowder put a move on leaving Alec Ogletree to eat his dust. Touchdown Jets. 14-0

The Jets have 125 yards in two drives, they average 223 per game. The Jets have also dominated the time of possession in this quarter.

And that's a wrap on the first quarter. The Jets ran 22 plays, the Giants 6. Jets 14, Giants 0

Second Quarter

14:15: The Giants get a DPI call against Hairston.

14:10: Giants are on the move. Jones hits tight end Rhett Ellison for 31 yards on a play-fake.

13:33: Barkley grabbed his left ankle after a botched screen play and was taken off the field for a play. Wayne Gallman picked up two yards.

12:33: And the Giants are on the board as Jones hits Darius Slayton for a 5-yard touchdown after Steve McLendon of the Jets gets called for a neutral zone infraction. JEts 14, Giants 7.

11:17: X-man gets a nice hit on Darnold to stop the Jets, but a defensive holding penalty against DeAndre Baker wipes that out.

11:13: Vyncint Smith beat Jabrill Peppers deep down the field, but Darnold overthrew him. A better pass would have equaled a touchdown.

10:20: Markus Golden with the ack. He's having himself a banner year. Golden now has 6.5 sacks for the year.

Injury Alert: Nate Solder is on the sideline. Eric Smith is in at left tackle.

7:08: Jones drops the shotgun snap and then rushes it away. Can't make this up, folks.

5:33: Hariston falls down and Darius Slayton breaks free for a 39-yard touchdown on 4th-and-4.

But the PAT doesn't come off as Dixon dropped the snap and then tried to run and throw it.  Jets 14, Giants 13.

INJURY UPDATE: Nate Solder has been ruled out of the rest of the game with a concussion. Giants are paper-thin at offensive tackle.

2:00: The Giants have 4th-and-1. What will they do?

1:54: The Giants ran a quarterback sneak but did not come up with the first down, falling short by an inch.

1:29: Sam Ficken 54-yard field goal attempt is wide left.

And that will do it for the half. Jets up 14-13 over the Giants.

 Third Quarter

14:23:  Daniel Joens is sacked again by Jamal Adams who beats Saquon Barkley. Jones fumbled the ball and Adams scooped it up for a 25-yard score.  Jets 21, Giants 13.

Another problem with that play and what we've been seeing all year is that  Jones simply does not feel the pass rush and doesn't know to keep two hands on the ball. He literally makes it easy for opposing defenses to strip him of the ball.

12:01: Jones hit Golden Tate for a 61-yard touchdown catch. The Giants then line up for two points and despite Golden Tate making the catch, the Giants are called for OPI. The Giants then elect to try a 42-yard PAT with the penalty yards and Rosas misses it. Jets 21, Giants 19.

8:59: The Giants isolate Barkley vs. a linebacker and he picks up 22 yards. How about that? It can be done.

5:26: Touchdown! The Giants take the lead on Jones' 15-yard pass over the middle to Golden Tate.

Although I don't agree with going for two this early, the Giants do that and convert.  Giants 27, Jets 21.

STATISTICAL NOTE: This is Jones' second four-touchdown performance in eight career starts.

3:23: Darnold takes off for 24 yards when the Giants defense can't get off their blocks.

1:46: Sam Ficken hits a 53-yard field goal to make it a 27,-24 game. Giants clinging to the lead.

1:34: Jones sacked at NYG 17 for -8 yards after Eric Smith gives up his second sack of the game. Well, at least the coaching staff wised up and is putting Wayne Gallman out there on passing downs.

:12: Darnold finds Jamison Crowder for 25-yards. The play was blown dead but it sure did look like he didn't step out of bounds.  Regardless, it's the end of the third quarter, with the Giants nursing a three-point lead.

Fourth Quarter

15:00: Baker flagged for DPI on a pass vs. Robby Anderson. Saw that one coming all the way. He never turned around to look for the ball. 1st-and-Goal for the Jets at the Giants' 1.

14:55: And the Jets regain the lead as Le'Veon Bell plows up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown.

9:57: Darnold hits Demaryius Thomas 2 for 47 yards as Baker is beaten on the crossing route.

Sam Beal is finally getting some snaps at corner. He's in for Janoris Jenkins, who is being evaluated for a concussion.

7:39: Sam Ficken hits a 35-yard field goal to make it 34-27. Meanwhile, Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins is headed to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion.

4:45: Giants call their first time out. Not sure why but wouldn't it be something if it comes back to bite them?

Since that last update, the Giants called the rest of their time outs. They have the two-minute warning but no timeouts.

3:32: Jones sacked for -7 yards by Jordan Jenkins. Giants are out of time outs. And the Giants have given up six sacks today.

0:00: That will do it. Jets win 34, 27. Bad loss for the Giants, who now head into the bye week
