The Giants signed offensive lineman Evan Brown off their practice squad and waived defensive lineman Olsen Pierre.

Brown, 6-2 and 3-5 pounds, joined the Giants as a rookie free agent on May 10, 2018, from SMU. He spent the 2018 season on the active roster but did not appear in a regular-season game. This year, he was waived on Aug. 31 and signed to the practice squad the following day.

Brown's promotion gives the Giants offensive line depth in the wake of the injuries suffered by Jon Halapio (hamstring) and Mike Remmers (back).

Spencer Pulley will get the start for Halapio at center, with Brown serving as the backup. Meanwhile, if Remmers, listed as doubtful, can't play, Nick Gates, who would otherwise be a backup at center and guard, will get his first NFL start if Remmers is indeed declared out.

Reserve offensive linemen Chad Slade and Eric Smith, both of whom were inactive each of the first nine games, will likely be active for Sunday's game against the Jets.

To open a roster spot for Brown, the Giants waived defensive lineman Olsen Pierre. Pierre, who signed with the Giants as a free agent on March 15 after playing two seasons with the Cardinals, played as a reserve lineman in every game this season and contributed eight tackles (seven solo), including 2.0 sacks.

Because Pierre was originally an RFA whom the Cardinals didn't tender, that the Giants released him before the eek ten cutoff will not affect their chances of gaining additional compensatory picks in next year's draft.
