Two points. First, these are not hog mollies. They are piglets. Rogers could have lunch behind his line. Jones is throwing quickly to avoid the sack. He doesn’t even have the time to check off. There are few holes for Barkley to capitalize. On defense, where is the pass rush? Second, the defensive secondary is in a zone and seems unable to adjust coverage when the opposing QB has time to throw. What are the coaches teaching them?
@60years You can't really blitz the heck out of Aaron Rodgers otherwise he'll burn you by dumping the ball off to a back. With said, if you're bringing four guys against five blockers, the odds don't necessarily line up in your favor.
I believe people are stretching the truth as far as they can to say that any unit on the defense is playing well. The only positive claim is that we held down their rushing attack ( better than ours, nonetheless ). GB didn't run the ball a lot because the snow made the footing terrible. More important, passing against the Giants ( for the last 5 years, at least ) has been a walk in the park. You need yards? Just throw the ball. I watched Dexter Lawrence all game yesterday...because he is highly ranked, apparently, among rookie defensive linemen ....and I was not impressed. I mean it is true...he pushes. Watch Dexter push. He is good at pushing. But GB pushed back. As a result...it was a " push," as we say in some card games. Between Dexter, Hill , Lawrence and Danielson, there was little pressure. And when it came, Aaron just easily skipped away and bought more time to throw. So lets not get too exited about what we have on the D-line. Maybe they are not pathetic...like the other 7 on that side of the ball..but they do not foretell an emerging " monsters of the midway" group. And dont forget; as long as Mara fails to take action on the GM ....and buys into the lie that things are " progressing behind the scenes" ( better lunch buffet ?)....we will sign Lawerence for huge $$$ and give away two high draft picks, all for the pleasure of keeping another non impact player. Gettleman has to sign him or he reveals to the world, again, that he is an idiot and is making poor personnel decisions at the expense of all future hope for this franchise. When a bear is attacking, you shoot it. You don't throw it another fish.
