Jaguars vs. Jets: Week 8 Game Day Live Thread

John Shipley

The 3-4 Jacksonville Jaguars will look to get a win over the struggling 1-5 Jets today at home as they try to get back to a .500 record at the halfway point of the season.

With the AFC South divisional race being as tight as it is, with the Jaguars currently only one game behind the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans, every single game is important. And as last week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals showed, the Jaguars still need to show they can win the "easy" games, so this week's clash is no guarantee.

Join us here for all of the live updates for Jaguars vs. Jets, and join in the conversation yourself in the comments below:

10:43 a.m.: Here at TIAA Bank Field for today's game. Cool weather and not much wind in Jacksonville.

11:12 a.m.: No ghosts, but a banner flying over TIAA Bank Field during this early afternoon.

11:30 p.m.: Jaguars have made their announcements on who is starting at weak and strongside linebacker.

11:49 a.m.: Awesome moment for Quincy and Quinnen Willaims.

12:38 p.m.: Can Fred Taylor still suit up? Goodness.

12:51 p.m.: So, so many ghost costumes today. Even the Jaguars' mascot is getting in on the fun.

Inactives:

Analysis: Both teams are down quite a few linebackers, with the Jaguars having at minimum two starting linebackers and a key reserve out. C.J. Mosely was supposed to be the key cog of the New York defense, so him not playing today could be a big boost for the Jaguars offense.

It is a tad surprising that Dontavius Russell is inactive instead of Akeem Spence considering Spence has only been on the Jaguars' roster since Friday. Devine Ozigbo is inactive after being active for the last few previous games, but he had yet to take an offensive snap so it is clear the active spot between him and Tyler Ervin is strictly special teams dependent.

First Quarter:

15:00: Jets have won the toss and deferred to the second half, so Jaguars will start with the ball.

13:39: Leonard Fournette runs right up the middle for a 66-yard gain before Jamal Adams catches him at the nine-yard line. Huge play on the game's second offensive play.

12:39: Gardner Minshew hits Keelan Cole with a beautiful touchdown pass in the back of the end zone for a six-yard score. What a start for the Jacksonville offense. Meanwhile, Josh Lambo misses the PAT, so it is only a six-point drive.

Jaguars 6, Jets 0.

11:08: Yannick Ngakoue gets an offsides penalty on 3rd & 1 to give the Jets a first down.

9:30: Jets left guard Alex Lewis commits a facemask to move the Jets offense back 15 yards.

7:13: Jets go with a full back dive on 4th & 1 and pick up the big conversion.

4:51: Sam Darnold hits Ryan Griffin for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Weakside linebacker Austin Calitro looked rough on that rep with Griffin making him get lost in space with ease.

Jets 7, Jaguars 6.

3:22: Gregg Williams was about to dial up a double corner blitz on 3rd down there. Brandon Linder gets the snap infraction penalty before they can snap it, and then Jaguars can't get the 25 yards they need to convert.

2:24: Ryan Griffen makes a great grab over Jarrod Wilson to pick up 16 yards and get a big gain.

2:01: TRE HERNDON INTERCEPTION! Huge play for the Jaguars defense. Came thanks to an Austin Calitro blitz and pressure.

1:11: Just like that, Jaguars get the lead back. Gardner Minshew sidestepped pressure and then hits a floater to Chris Conley while on the run, and he takes it all the way for the score. 70-yard touchdown.

Jaguars 13, Jets 7.

Second Quarter:

14:10: Yannick Ngakoue gets the 3rd down sack to get Jacksonville off of the field. His third sack of the season.

14:01: Dede Westbrook has his best punt return of the season and takes it 24 yards to the Jets 37-yard line.

13:03: Gardner Minshew is hit by Jordan Willis and loses the ball as he tries to throw. Jets ball.

11:53: Josh Allen gets in on the turnover party and sacks Sam Darnold to force a fumble on 3rd down. Fumble isn't picked up, but it is Allen's sixth sack in the last six games.

10:24: Minshew hits DJ Chark on a beautiful corner route on 3rd down for a 29-yard gain.

8:37: Minshew hits Chris Conley for 14 yards on 3rd & 11 with pressure bearing down on him. He is dealing right now.

6:00: Minshew gets *another* 3rd down conversion, this time scrambling for 13 after Gregg Williams sends the house at him.

5:13: Marqise Lee is questionable to return with a shoulder injury.

3:37: Minshew to Seth DeValve for 11 yards for Jacksonville's fourth 3rd down conversion this drive. Almost a nine-minute drive this far.

2:57: Josh Lambo hits the 29-yard field goal to give Jacksonville an even bigger lead, but Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is still livid the Jets were not called for taunting on 3rd down.

Jaguars 16, Jets 7.

2:00: Dawuane Smoot lines up at defensive tackle on 3rd down and gets his fourth sack of the season to get the Jets offense off of the field.

0:11: Jaguars' offense crosses midfield and Josh Lambo nails the 43-yard field goal to give them a nice cushion heading into halftime.

Jaguars 19, Jets 7.

Third Quarter:

13:30: Jaguars wide receiver Dede Westbrook has been ruled out with a neck and shoulder injury. Big loss for Jacksonville's offense.

11:35: Jaguars get sacks on consecutive plays to drive the Jets offense way back. Abry Jones and Calais Campbell split a sack while Yannick Ngakoue gets his second of the game.

9:03: Leonard Williams gets his first sack of the year but it is nullified by a penalty. Jaguars near the 30-yard line now.

6:53: Jaguars offense is hurt by penalties and sacks and punt the ball back to the Jets. Will need another good drive by the defense.

5:23: Jaguars send the house at Darnold on 3rd down and Ronnie Harrison gets the sack. Now six on the day for Jacksonville's defense.

3:45: Gardner Minshew scrambles for the 1st down and then gets another big chunk thanks to being hit out of bounds for a personal foul. Jaguars across midfield now.

3:19: Referees call another penalty for a hit on Minshew, and Jaguars will have the ball at the Jets 19-yard line.

2:15: Jaguars yet again can't punch it into the end zone, instead have to opt for a field goal after two incompletions to Chark. Lambo hits a 24-yard field goal for another score.

Jaguars 22, Jets 7.

00:15: Jets offense is moving the ball into Jacksonville's territory now. No more blitzing from Wash.

Fourth Quarter:

14:08: Calais Campbell knives through the Jets' offensive line for a sack, the Jaguars' 7th sack of the game.

13:13: Doug Marrone challenged a 23-yard Darnold pass, but the play stood. It was a tough one to call so it makes sense that it stood.

13:07: Darnold hit Griffen for another touchdown, this one a three-yard toss, and then the Jets went for two. Griffin catches that, too.

Jaguars 22, Jets 15.

10:20: Jaguars' offense is forced to punt after back-to-back drops by Chris Conley and DJ Chark. Jets get the ball back in a seven-point game.

9:26: Austin Calitro makes a nice tackle for a loss of four on a swing pass to Le'Veon Bell. Jaguars need a stop.

8:39: Darnold throws an absolute lollipop that gets intercepted by A.J. Bouye, his first takeaway this season. Jaguars will get the ball at Jets 24-yard line.

7:06: Fournette runs a great wheel route on 3rd & 10 and Minshew gets him the ball in stride to get to the Jets' 10-yard line.

4:13: DJ Chark gets the touchdown grab after Leonard Fournette isn't able to get a yard. Minshew to Chark for eight yards, and Minshew now has three touchdowns.

Jaguars 29, Jets 15.

3:33: Safety Ronnie Harrison is down on the field. Scary looking injury for the emerging player.

3:18: Tre Herndon records his second interception of the day and of his career. The game was already over, but that will ice this one for the Jaguars.

2:34: Josh Allen gets his seventh sack of the season and the Jaguars now have eight on the day.

00:34: Jaguars turn it over on downs with a kneel down and are now gonna let the clock run out. Jaguars will win 29-15.

Dominating performance by the defense today sans two drives, and Minshew simply looked like a stud.

Todd Wash completely stopped what was working and went back to soft zone defenses. Why?

Defense has done a pretty solid job of getting pressure on Darnold for the majority of this game. Keeping him in check is helping this defense a lot today.

The Jets may have the worst OL in the league if this game is any indication.

Brandon Linder has gotten called for two penalties today and seemingly gets a bad holding call each game. Strange, because he never used to get penalized.

Minshew didn't get a TD in the last two drives but his movement in the pocket has been MUCH better.

Gardner Minshew is making these Gregg Williams blitzes look pointless with his evasive ability

A called run on 2nd & 14 is... odd.

Gardner Minshew has got to fix his fumbling problems. The ball can't come out that easy.

Jacksonville blitzes Darnold once and get a turnover. Would you look at that?

The Jaguars had zero answers for Sam Darnold that drive. Zero.

Jaguars defensive line is getting penetration but already two penalties this drive. Not good

What a run by Fournette, but there has to be some reason he can never cap off those long runs with a score.
