The Jaguars signed second-year cornerback Parry Nickerson, the team announced today.

Nickerson was a sixth-round draft pick by the New York Jets in 2018, he played all 16 games for the Jets last season. He recorded 19 tackles and one pass deflection.

Nickerson spent the 2019 training camp with the Jets, but was then traded to the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 31 and spent Weeks 2-6 on the Hawks practice squad.

Nickerson played his college pall at Tulane, he finished his college career with 16 interceptions, which is the second-most in school history. He also ranks third in school history in pass breakups with 31. He was also named as a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist in his Senior year.

Nickerson will wear number 35 for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars needed to fill their final spot on the 53-man roster following the departure of All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who Jacksonville traded to the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday. The Jaguars traded Ramsey for first-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021, along with a fourth-round draft pick in 2021.

Second-year cornerback Tre Herndon and veteran cornerback A.J. Bouye are still expected to remain as the Jaguars starters, with D.J. Hayden manning the nickel corner position.

Breon Borders has served as the Jaguars' primary backup cornerback for the last three games, each of which Ramsey missed with a back injury. He has spent limited time both outside and in the nickel position.

The team elected to sign Nickerson instead of bringing up rookie cornerbacks Tae Hayes and Brandon Watson from the team's practice squad.
