The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) offense took a big hit on Monday when it was announced emerging tight end James O’Shaughnessy suffered a torn ACL against in Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, ending his 2019 season.

“James had a terrible knee injury, an ACL [injury]. It’s really unfortunate. He was doing a lot of really good things for us, really coming along,” head coach Doug Marrone said on Monday.

“So, he’ll probably be placed on IR at some point. And we don’t have to make any decisions today, so we’ll probably work some guys out and then make a decision of where we are, as far as what we want to do with that position.”

O’Shaughnessy was having the best season of his career up to this point, with 14 receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns so far this season.

With O’Shaughnessy done for the season, the Jaguars will have to rely on depth players Geoff Swaim and Seth DeValve until rookie Josh Oliver returns from a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since the first week of August.

“I think we’re at that same point where we were when we kind of needed to work with him more. I hate to say it, it’s going to be day-to-day. He’s going to be listed as questionable, but obviously it would be a big help for us if we can get him back on the field playing,” Marrone said about Oliver on Monday.

“And I think we’ll know more with some of the strength testing and things in the next couple days and see where he is on Wednesday.”
