While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 27-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (82 snaps)

OG Andrew Norwell: 82

OT Jawaan Taylor: 82

QB Gardner Minshew: 82

C Brandon Linder: 81

RB Leonard Fournette: 74

OT Cedric Ogbuehi: 65

WR DJ Chark: 63

WR Chris Conley: 57

WR Dede Westbrook: 54

OG A.J. Cann: 50

TE Seth DeValve: 49

TE: Ben Koyack: 43

OG Will Richardson: 32

TE Josh Oliver: 25

OT Cam Robinson: 23

WR Keelan Cole: 20

WR C.J. Board: 11

RB Ryquell Armstead: 7

C Tyler Shatley: 1

RB Tyler Ervin: 1

  • Josh Oliver played a good bit less than Jacksonville's other tight ends in his NFL debut and didn't receive a target in the passing game. The lower snap count should have always been the expectation though, considering he has only been a full participant in practice two times since being sidelined with a hamstring injury in the first week of August. His role should expand as the season progresses, but baby steps aren't surprising.
  • Left tackle Cam Robinson went down a few drives into Sunday's game with what Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone described as a toe injury. Before his injury, he was beaten by Geno Atkins for a sack but he was also completely mauling Bengals defenders in the run game. Cedric Ogbuehi took his place in the lineup and this will continue if Robinson is out for an extended period of time.
  • With veteran wide receiver Marqise Lee out with an ankle injury, depth receivers Keelan Cole and C.J. Board each saw their highest number of snaps all season. Cole made the best of it by catching the Jaguars' sole offensive touchdown and delivering a few key blocks on the perimeter.

Defense (72 snaps)

FS Jarrod Wilson: 72

CB Tre Herndon: 72

SS Ronnie Harrison: 72

LB Myles Jack: 72

CB A.J. Bouye: 72

DE Yannick Ngakoue: 65

CB D.J. Hayden: 65

DE Calais Campbell: 57

LB Quincy Williams: 48

DE Josh Allen: 39

DT Abry Jones: 33

DT Marcell Dareus: 31

DE Dawuane Smoot: 29

DT Taven Bryan: 28

FS Cody Davis: 12

LB D.J. Alexander: 10

DE Lerentee McCray: 5

LB Leon Javobs: 4

CB Breon Borders: 3

LB Najee Goode: 3

  • Fourth-year defensive end Yannick Ngakoue played the most snaps he has in any game this season and it paid off for Jacksonville, with Ngakoue doing a great job setting the edge in the run game and then turning it on as a pass rusher in the second half. He also intercepted Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton on a screen pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown to seal the game.
  • The Jaguars played with three different weakside linebackers after veteran Najee Goode went down with a turf toe injury following the game's first drive. Rookie Quincy Williams also left the game for 10 snaps due to a hamstring injury, though he later returned. A week after playing zero snaps, Williams played nearly 50 for defensive coordinator Todd Wash's unit and he turned in his most mistake-free performance of the season.
