While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 33-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (63 snaps)

OG Andrew Norwell: 63

C Brandon Linder: 63

RT Jawaan Taylor: 63

QB Nick Foles: 63

WR Chris Conley: 60

WR DJ Chark: 59

OT Cam Robinson: 54

WR Dede Westbrook: 53

RB Leonard Fournette: 45

OG A.J. Cann: 40

TE Josh Oliver: 34

WR Keelan Cole: 25

OT Will Richardson: 23

TE Ben Koyack: 16

RB Ryquell Armstead: 14

OT Cedric Ogbuehi: 14

RB Devine Ozigbo: 4

  • With Seth DeValve out with injury, Jacksonville ran a lot fewer two tight end sets than they traditionally have with John DeFilippo calling plays. Josh Oliver led the tight ends in snaps before exiting the game in the final quarter with a back injury, so he likely would have played even more. But even with those snaps, he only saw two targets. He caught one of those for five yards, continuing his non-impactful season.
  • Leonard Fournette had his lowest snap count of the season and him being rotated out of the game started as early as the first drive of the game. Fournette was not on the field for a key third down in the first half, and Ryquell Armstead failed to make a blitz pickup for Nick Foles which lead to a sack. Fournette also only saw eight carries on Sunday, so that figure in addition to his snaps shows just how much of a nonfactor he was.
  • A.J. Cann has begun to separate himself from Will Richardson in recent weeks in terms of snaps played. Head coach Doug Marrone said the two would continue to rotate until one takes a firm grasp on the job, but it looks as of now that Cann is at least the leader in the race.

Defense (68 snaps)

FS Jarrod Wilson: 68

LB Myles Jack: 68

CB A.J. Bouye: 68

CB Tre Herndon: 67

LB Najee Goode: 65

SS Ronnie Harrison: 60

DL Calais Campbell: 54

CB D.J. Hayden: 52

DE Yannick Ngakoue: 52

DT Taven Bryan: 50

DT Abry Jones: 37

DE Josh Allen: 35

DL Dawuane Smoot: 25

DT Akeem Spence: 20

LB Leon Jacobs: 16

FS Andrew Wingard: 8

SS Cody Davis: 3

  • Taven Bryan played a career-high in snaps but aside from a tackle for loss in the third quarter, he did not make much of an impact on the run defense. He has been impressive with his ability to cause interior penetration but it is clear Jacksonville needs more help inside than just Bryan to fix their run defense.
  • When the Jaguars are playing the run as bad as they were on Sunday, maybe Josh Allen should see more snaps? He is a terrific run defender thanks to his size and strength on the edge and could have maybe helped more against some of the stretch and outside zone run plays the Colts gashed the Jaguars with.
