Instant reaction: Analysis of Jets' 17-16 loss vs. Bills

Everything you need to know from the Jets' Week 1 matchup.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. --The New York Jets fell to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday by a score of 17-16. Here are some key takeaways from the Week 1 contest.

-The team failed to capitalize on good field position, despite forcing five turnovers.

-With 1:17 left to play, Buffalo's pass rush affects Darnold's throw and his 4th down heave to Crowder falls incomplete.

-Jamison Crowder could conceivably catch 100 passes this season.

-Roberts lost out on a jump ball to John Brown down the left sideline for a 38-yard touchdown pass, putting Buffalo up 17-16.

-Linebackers Harvey Langi and Blake Cashman saw some snaps at linebacker in Mosley's absence, making it six linebackers to play defensive snaps for the Jets on Sunday.

-C.J. Mosely sustained a groin injury at the end of the third quarter and did not return. His absence affected the defensive chemistry in the final quarter.

-WR Josh Bellamy and RB Trenton Cannon won't get much fanfare, but they are outstanding gunners on punt coverage. Forced several fair catches Sunday afternoon.

-Mosley continues his impressive afternoon with a pass breakup in the end zone. Marcus Maye drops a would-be pick-six on ensuing play.

-Allen nearly picked off by Mosley over the middle. Roughing the passer called on Henry Anderson.

-Jamal Adams drew Cole Beasley in coverage on the game's first play from scrimmage. Darryl Roberts traveled with Beasley on second play.

-Adams demonstrates his tackling prowess with a key stop on Buffalo's Patrick DeMarco, limiting the fullback to a gain of just four yards.

-Jordan Jenkins showing off his closing speed with a strip-sack on Bills QB Josh Allen. The Jets took over on their own 38-yard line.

-Bills surprisingly split DeMarco out wide frequently, rather than a utilizing one of their speed receivers.

-Jets using a four-man linebacker rotation: Mosley, Jenkins, Hewitt, Luvu.

-Jets offensive line, particularly Brian Winters and Kelvin Beachum, struggled against the formidable Bills front.

-Two big penalties called on Darryl Roberts in the first half.

-C.J. Mosley announces his arrival to Jets fans with a pick-six on the second defensive series and recovering a fumble on a 4th and 1 late in the second quarter.

-Allen's uneven first half ended with another turnover. Neville Hewitt intercepted a deflected pass by Henry Anderson for Allen's second interception of the game.
