WATCH: Jets GM Joe Douglas outlines why partnership with Adam Gase is ideal

The duo will be tasked with restoring Gang Green back to respectability

The general manager and head coach having a strong relationship is vital for establishing a solid organizational foundation in the NFL. That's why the Jets are poised to craft an excellent culture under GM Joe Douglas and head coach Adam Gase.

The Jets hired Gase in January and Douglas in June. The pair previously worked together for the Bears in 2015 when Douglas was director of college scouting and Gase roamed the sidelines as an offensive coordinator.

The Jets have missed the postseason for the last eight years. Both men are motivated to get the Jets back on track and Douglas strongly believes this is an ideal partnership.

“I do think we share the same philosophies on what it takes to be successful. I also think us getting on board with the players as well, I mean, this is a partnership: communicating, being transparent, and being open and honest with each one of our players,” Douglas said to New York Jets.com. “Those are the things you can expect from me and Adam. We’re always going to be honest with each other, we’re always going to communicate well, and we’re not going to be afraid to have tough conversations if we disagree.”

The fact that Douglas and Gase have prior experience together makes this transition smoother. As Douglas stated, they might not always see eye to eye, but they have a bond that'll eliminate any tension.

Douglas has captured three Super Bowl titles in his personnel career: two with the Ravens and one with the Eagles. Douglas is certain Gase can guide the Jets to greatness.

“I really put emphasis on the people, on the person, on the locker room and on the culture,” Douglas said to New York Jets.com. “And I feel like I’ve said it many times since arriving, but you win with people. That means good, high-character people, and not just personal character but football character and guys that love to compete and love to win.”
