All season long, the New York Jets have been mired in a state of, at best, mediocrity. But perhaps all that could be set to turn around, with reasons for optimism that this time might be set to turn a corner.

Then again, this is the NFL and nothing is set in stone. But after a 34-27 win on Sunday over the New York Giants, things are a bit better in terms of the direction of the team.

And there is a sense now that the Jets might be set to turn a corner. Quarterback Sam Darnold played better in Week 10, the offensive line was improved against the Giants and the play of safety Jamal Adams transformed the defense.

This team might be ready to start winning a couple of games. They are playing better and the schedule points to a few games that are very winnable.

“I think it's important for us to continue and to continue to build off of this win. Using it as momentum to carry us into this week and make sure we have a really good work week,” quarterback Sam Darnold said.

“Coming in [Monday] and making sure we get some work in, and then coming back Wednesday and making sure we have a good practice and good practices leading up to the game, just like we did last week.”

Now might be the time for this team to begin rattling off a couple of wins.

The Jets came into the season with the second-easiest strength of schedule, something that begins to hit home over the next few weeks. There are some bad teams remaining on the schedule.

Of the Jets remaining seven games, three of them are against teams with the worst record in the NFL. On Sunday they play at Washington (1-8) who have the league’s second worst record. In addition, on the schedule are the Cincinnati Bengals (0-9) and the Miami Dolphins (2-7).

Also on the schedule are the Oakland Raiders, who at 5-4 have been maddingly inconsistent and are vulnerable.

Sunday’s opponent is a team that is in tank mode and appears to be doing everything possible to ensure that they grab a top pick in next April’s NFL Draft. This as they pursue their first winning streak since Week 5 and Week 6 of last year.

“Yeah, it's all going to be about Wednesday showing up, coming back to work, wiping the slate clean, just focusing on winning the next game and really preparing for the next game,” head coach Adam Gase said.

“If we're looking past anything besides that, we're in the wrong spot. We need to stay focused at the task at hand. We need to figure out a way to keep improving every day and not really worry about what's going on record wise and things like that. We just need to play better than we did the week before.”
