WATCH: Jets QB Sam Darnold breaks down 'fun' opening TD drive to begin preseason

Darnold wanted to give Jets fans "a little taste of what this season is going to be like."

If the opening drive of the preseason is any indication, Jets fans could have plenty to look forward to offensively.

Sam Darnold marched the Jets down the field on a seven-play, 75-yard drive, capped off with a three-yard touchdown to Jamison Crowder.

The Jets lost 31-22 to the host Giants but the first-team offense showcased maximum efficiency in limited action. Darnold said the successful drive was the result of a total team effort.

"I thought our guys did a really good job getting open. First and foremost, our O-line blocked their butts off," Darnold said. "In the pocket every time I dropped back it was super clean and I was even able to scoot up a couple times."

The drive started with a four-yard run by Ty Montgomery. Then Darnold nearly threw an interception on an intended pass to Quincy Enunwa. However, Darnold bounced back with a 32-yard completion across the middle to Chris Herndon.

"Even that one to Chris, I felt like no one was really around around me," Darnold said. "Then I just felt a huge gap in the pocket open up and I was able to find Chris over the middle and he obviously got a big gain."

From there, Crowder caught a short pass from Darnold and took it 28 yards to the Giants' 11-yard-line. Montgomery then had a five-yard reception and three-yard run. Darnold connected with Crowder on the next play for the touchdown.

"So, it was fun out there for that first drive," Darnold said. "Hopefully we gave Jets fans a little taste of what this season is going to be like."

It was only a preseason game but Jets fans are definitely excited after that dominant display by the offense. This was an encouraging first impression of the new and improved Jets offense.
