Panthers Fans Would Go Crazy if Daniel Jeremiah's Latest Mock Draft Came True

This makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm all for mock drafts, but sometimes these things can get a little off the rails.

In Daniel Jeremiah's mock draft 2.0 on NFL.com, he has the Carolina Panthers staying put at No. 9 and selecting Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski.

"For this mock, I’m assuming the Panthers don't trade up to land a quarterback and instead go the veteran route at the position. Skoronski can slide inside to play guard in Carolina, teaming up with Ikem Ekwonu to give the Panthers two building blocks for the offensive line. New head coach Frank Reich knows the impact of investing heavily in the line of scrimmage, having spent time on the Eagles’ staff before he left for Indianapolis."

He, along with many others around the league, believe Skoronski to be a guard at the NFL level. So, no he's not a future replacement for Taylor Moton. But still, it doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons. Why would you take a guard at No. 9 when there are bigger holes on your roster? I'm of the thought that you shouldn't draft for need, but you also shouldn't draft the best player available if that player is at a position that is already taken care of. Both Austin Corbett and Brady Christensen did a fine job at their guard spots in 2022 and are guys that shouldn't be looking over their shoulder. Mainly talking about Christensen here because Corbett isn't getting replaced.

In this mock, quarterback Anthony Richardson (Florida) is still on the board along with tight ends Michael Mayer (Notre Dame) Dalton Kincaid (Utah) and receivers Jordan Addison (USC), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Ohio State), and Quentin Johnston (TCU).
