Patriots Talk LIVE with Game Updates: Patriots vs. Giants
The New England Patriots will be back home at Gillette Stadium for their Week 6, Thursday night game against the New York Giants. The Patriots lead the AFC with a 5-0 record and are in position for a great matchup against the NFC East's 3rd ranked team at 2-3
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is set to break Peyton Manning’s all-time career passing yards record on Thursday. Brady currently is at 71,846 yards, which puts him in third place all-time after breaking Brett Favre’s record after throwing for 348 yards against the Washington Redskins. Manning is in second place with 71,863 yards, so it’s expected Brady will break the record relatively early in the game.
The 42-year-old quarterback isn’t the only player to keep your eyes on. Patriots running back Sony Michel rushed for 81 yards on 12 carries during the second half of Sunday’s game against the Redskins. With a head of steam like that, the Giants defense will need to be on the lookout for the Patriots to use Michel’s agility to their advantage, as well as his growing ability to catch passes.
Following Ben Watson’s release from Ben England earlier this week, tight end Ryan Izzo and Matt LaCosse will be looking to step up and create scoring opportunities by finding a rhythm with Brady. Izzo was left wide open for his first career touchdown against the Redskins, and should be used equally as effectively.
Former Giant Marshall Newhouse is back in fighting shape on the offensive line for the Patriots, but the offense is still struggling bouncing back from other injuries. Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett (hamstring) will not be playing Thursday night following an injury sustained last Thursday. Questionable players include Josh Gordon (knee) and Julian Edelman (chest), who’s still working out a chest injury he sustained during Week 3’s victory over the New York Jets.
With New England's defense performing at historic proportions, New York will have their work cut out for them. Rookie QB Daniel Jones has shown already this season that he can handle a fair amount of pressure with quick footwork and split-second decisions, being able to spot his receivers downfield from deep in the pocket. The pressure from the Patriots defensive line will definitely be on the rookie out of Duke University.
The Giants are boasting an offensive injury list of powerhouse offensive players. Running back Saquon Barkley, wideout Sterling Shepard, TE Evan Engram, and RB Wayne Gallman are not playing in Thursday nights game, leaving Jones without his top three pass catchers. 10-year veteran Golden Tate, who is entering his second game after serving a four-game suspension, will have to be an integral part of the offense for New York to have a chance at putting the brakes on the Patriots; but his actions will have to speak louder than his bravado.
Kickoff is at 8:20 EST at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA on Thursday, October 10th.
