The New England Patriots are placing kicker Stephen Gostkowski on injured reserve, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.

*UPDATE*

ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported that Gostkowski suffered a left hip injury that will require season-ending surgery.

Gostkowski was having a rough start to the season, missing four PATs and one field goal through the first four games of the regular season.

Mike Reiss of ESPN shared earlier today that the team was working out kickers, but hinted at them doing such just as a way to update their emergency list.

Apparently, New England was actually working out their next starting kicker.

*UPDATE*

Reiss reported shortly after the news broke that the team worked out veteran kicker Kai Forbath and rookie Matthew Wright from UCF today.
