Patriots projected to have 14 draft picks in 2020
FOXBOROUGH, MASS. - In 2019, the New England Patriots had 12 draft picks to choose from, with four of those being compensatory. The end result for the Patriots was 10 draft selections. That seems like a lot of selections and picks to choose from...until you see what New England has in store for 2020.
According to Pro Sports Transactions, the Patriots will have 14 draft picks in 2020. They will have six of their own picks, one conditional seventh-rounder from the Eagles via the Michael Bennett trade, two more from the Falcons via the Jordan Richards trade and the Seahawks from the Jacob Hollister trade, and a fourth-rounder via a trade with the Bears during the 2019 NFL Draft. Lastly, New England should get two third-round compensatory picks because of Trent Brown and Trey Flowers, and two sixth-round compensatory picks because of Cordarrelle Patterson and Malcom Brown.
The Patriots likely will not use all of those picks on players. Instead, they will use them to move up in the draft or to grab veteran players with a cheap price tag.
Bill Belichick has been masterfully playing off of the compensatory pool and will continue to rack up draft picks, which will allow New England to wheel-and-deal more often going forward.
