Answering Your Las Vegas Raiders Emails, Questions

The Las Vegas Raiders have some rabid fans in all professional sports, and each week we answer your questions and emails.

HENDERSON, Nev.--The Las Vegas Raiders fan base is rabid for quality information, which is why I answer your weekly emails and questions. Let's get started:

Hondo, I really love your work. I know you talk to many people around the NFL and get their opinions, but I trust you. If you had to guess who will be the starting QB for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, I know it's a guess, but who would you predict? --Terry H.

Based on what I KNOW right now, my guess is Aaron Rodgers. But I am not certain, nor are others around the NFL, that they can get him.

Hondo, in your latest percentages, you had Aaron Rodgers at the top. Here is a question. I read you religiously, and I don't think he would be at the top of your list by guessing. So you hear things. What would you call it if the Raiders didn't get Rodgers? --Kelly K.

A disaster, but let me explain. In my article from Feb. 1, 2023, I quoted an NFL executive who called the Raiders losing out on Tom Brady as "Brutal." I didn't think it was, and I thought it was a wrong move, in my personal opinion. Josh McDaniels wants a veteran, and additionally, they must keep Davante Adams happy, and Aaron does that. If they don't get Rodgers, they would have struck out on the only two veterans you can honestly have a legitimate opinion on that are better than Derek Carr. Not getting Aaron would be a disastrous look.

Hey Hondo, with the news about the Salary cap increase, is there a scenario where the team lets Carr's contract vest and then tries trading him later in the offseason? --Thanks, Sam M

No. the Raiders either have to have a trade in place, or they will cut him on Feb. 15.

Hondo, why are we seeing reports the Raiders are not letting DC help find a trade partner... Any substance to that, or more clickbait? You do a great job; we appreciate your inside view. --Steve D

Thank you for the kind words.  I addressed that RIGHT HERE.

Hey Hondo, how much do the Raiders believe in Andre James? If we move Parham to center, there are some great guards in this upcoming draft, along with the free agency. Thank you! --Ryan S

The Raiders are very high on Parham. They also like James, but other than Parham and Kolton Miller, I don't think anyone is untouchable.

Greetings, you always give great info on my team. I started following them in 1969. I don't want to see him go (Carr), but can he pass the exit physical (back and ribs) and the chance he stays because of it? --DJ

While I am not a doctor, he is expected to pass a physical if traded to a new team.

Mr. Carpenter, I have read everything you have written on the Raiders, and I must say I love it. I have a question for you. If Derek Carr is hurt at the Pro Bowl, would the Raiders then be responsible for his contract being guaranteed due to injury? --Thank you, Heather F.

Yes, but the Pro Bowl is a flag football game, so it lessens, albeit not eliminates, the concern.

Hondo, I have an idea. How about the Raiders keep Derek Carr and draft a rookie QB to teach him and let the rookie start? --Thank you, Carl D.

Derek Carr is not returning to the Raiders in 2023. Additionally, why in the world would you pay your backup QB $40 million?

From the weekly hate Hondo file:

Hey, you fat f**k. You have ruined my Raiders. You are nothing more than a mouthpiece of Derek, Mr. fifth-best QB, and attack the franchise we love. --Ken T.

Hondo, your constant attacks on Derek Carr are ridiculous.  Derek Carr is a Godly man and an outstanding QB, and we will never recover. I can tell you this. Getting rid of Derek Carr will demonstrate God's wrath, but cursing this franchise for the next 100 years as it did to Boston trading Babe Ruth. You absolutely suck. --Andy H.

Hondo, I liked your work at first, but since your guy, Jon Gruden, got fired, you have done nothing but attack this franchise's ownership and coaches. I would love nothing better than reading about your painful death in an accident. You're a hack attacking this team. --Bobby D.
