Henderson, Nev. -- For the entire 2020 offseason, the national media has pedaled the narrative of a Las Vegas Raiders quarterback controversy.
A controversy that never existed.
Marcus Mariota is an excellent quarterback, but Derek Carr is elite. In 2019, Carr had some of his best statistics, but that didn't equate to wins, because of the injury bug that attacked the Raiders.
The 2020 season should be much different.
I asked Mike Mayock what he was most pleasantly surprised with from the 2020 training camp. His answer was a drop the mic moment for the Raiders, Derek Carr, and the final nail in the quarterback controversy theories.
"I'm just really pleased with the way Derek Carr has taken over this football team," Mayock said. "And it goes back to the offseason, it goes back to all the workouts he had with the players and the players just confirming their buy-in. And that's been awesome. I think Derek is just a natural. I think he gets better every day with Jon (Gruden) in Year 3. That's been awesome."
I do not blame fans for being disappointed with the outcome of 2019. That is what makes the Raider Nation special. Their mantra is "Just Win Baby," but I blame some in the national media that should have known better.
Now that the controversy that we told you all offseason was non-existent, is over, now let's turn our attention to the 2020 season and the Carolina Panthers.
