LA Rams Announce Bobby Wagner Release, McVay Thanks LB

The release of Bobby Wagner from the Los Angeles has been announced by the franchise.

The Los Angeles Rams and linebacker Bobby Wagner mutually agreed to part ways last month after just one season.

And on Wednesday, that decision was been officially announced by the Rams.

Rams head coach Sean McVay released a statement shortly after the announcement, thanking Wagner for his time in LA.

“Bobby is an outstanding competitor and a leader that elevates everyone around him,” McVay said. “His perspective, steadiness, and consistency set an example for our players, coaches and staff. We are grateful for Bobby and his contributions to our organization during his time with the Rams.”

Wagner, 32, departs the Rams after signing a five-year, $50 million deal last offseason following his long tenure with the Seattle Seahawks. He signed with Los Angeles expecting to contend for his second Super Bowl ring, but injuries derailed LA's season before it began, as the team finished with a 5-12 record.

Wagner was one of the only stars that was healthy for LA all season long. He played in all 17 games, finishing with 140 total tackles, two interceptions, five passes defended and one blocked kick.

He also totaled six sacks after having just eight in the previous four seasons combined.

At the end of the season, Wagner was named the Rams’ MVP and received the Daniel F. Reeves Memorial Award.

Once the release is official, which according to our friends at Rams Wire could be either in June, or this month, Wagner will look to join a contender in free agency this offseason, as he suddenly finds himself in a similar situation to last year.
