Can Nelson Agholor Save The Ravens Offense?

The Ravens signed former New England Patriot Nelson Agholor after a free agent visit, but is the veteran receiver what Todd Monken's offense really needs?

After hosting free agent wide receiver Nelson Agholor, the Baltimore Ravens swiftly signed him to a one-year, $3.25 million deal.

With a clear need to invest in the receiver position as tight end, Mark Andrews was head and shoulders above most last season, is adding Agholor the player the Ravens offense needed?

Agholor has proven to be a viable contributor throughout his NFL career, but in the last two seasons, the former first-round draft pick has totaled 68 receptions for 835 yards and five touchdowns.

Granted, that was with Mac Jones, who is still trying to figure out the quarterback position, but can Agholor be "the guy" to help ease the offensive burden on Andrews?

His best season came in 2020 for the Las Vegas Raiders, as he totaled 896 yards and eight touchdowns from 48 receptions, so the talent is there.

It is essentially a "no risk" deal for the Ravens, and in a system that likes to run the ball, Agholor could see himself with some favorable matchups. Obviously, much of this is predicated on the outcome of Lamar Jackson and his contract saga that seems destined to drag on. Still, Baltimore secured a veteran receiver at low cost.

It's a win-win.

After last season which saw Baltimore's heavy reliance on Andrews exposed again, moves needed to be made to ease that workload. In Agholor, that happens to an extent, but the Ravens need the 2020 version of Agholor to show himself this season.

While Jackson's uncertain future likely hinders Baltimore's chances of securing a deal for the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. or DeAndre Hopkins, they might have to make do with signing veterans on a minimum salary.

Agholor isn't the splash signing some wanted, but if given a chance, he could be a useful addition to the Ravens' offense.
