The Baltimore Ravens' franchise tagged QB announced on Saturday night that he will soon be releasing "an exclusive interview with himself,'' as it has been phrased, on his own YouTube page.
There is some wisdom in the move as it demonstrates the ability of the modern-day athlete to use social media to offer his viewpoint and his message with his own clarity, rather with the sometimes subjective filter of the media.
On the other hand, it is unclear as to whether the interview will actually offer up any pertinent information regarding Jackson's future with the Ravens, or his contract status, or offers he may be getting from other teams ...
And of course we concede that because athletes are entertainers, Lamar certainly has the right to turn this into a dramatic event.
Or, if he wishes to use the "event'' to announce some charity work, or just to wave into the camera and say nothing.
It is also worth noting here that when a media person named Jonas Shaffer tweeted this ...
"On his IG, Lamar Jackson teases an 'exclusive interview' — with himself — coming on his Lamar Jackson Entertainment YouTube page. It will be released 'soon'' ...
That Jackson retweeted the mention, with the the NFL star also tweeting a rocket emoji for all of his fans to see.
Again ... what is the meaning of the rocket ship? What is the purpose of being cryptic?
Much has been made of the fact that Lamar represents himself in contract negotiations, working without an agent. We're about to see how he works this, too ... Because while the Ravens have the tag-related control, Jackson does get to at least be in charge of this.
