Could Callahan Change His Mind?

Redskins Head Coach Bill Callahan will meet with the media today after an extra practice session closed to the media at Redskins Park. That practice session is scheduled to begin at 12:30, so Callahan is expected to speak around 2 PM ET.

For many, it is expected to be a mere formality. Dwayne Haskins should be named the starting quarterback for this Sunday against the New York Jets and possibly for the rest of his rookie season.

That's what I expect but only because of the published reports from last week that informed us of Callahan making a decision.

But what happens if Haskins doesn't get named the starter today? Media will be furious. Fans will be upset. Nobody will understand.

However, does Bill Callahan have a point? Does he need to be upfront and on the record before he really has to?

I don't think he does. Would we like an answer? Yes, of course. Is there anything to really gain if you do it today?

OR ...there's another scenario at play.

What if Callahan and the Redskins have had a change of heart? What if they decided over the last four days to go back to Case Keenum?

What if the information disseminated last week was a test balloon and Callahan is upset that the news leaked?

What if Callahan goes back to his publicly proclaimed starter just two weeks ago, who was playing reasonably well in the first half against Minnesota?

Just something to consider. I never say never around this franchise.

Don't be shocked in any way if Keenum takes back his perch on the quarterback "throne" and Haskins has to wait.
