JAN 7 NOAH FANT OUT Seattle Seahawks tight end Noah Fant suffered a hand injury in the first half of Sunday's meeting with the Arizona Cardinals. After originally being ruled questionable to return, the team has now ruled Fant out for the remainder of the game.
This season, Fant has posted 32 catches for 414 yards.
DEC 31 SEAHAWKS O-LINE INJURIES The Seattle Seahawks have lost two starters on the offensive line to injury in Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Seahawks announced that center Evan Brown (concussion) and offensive tackle Abraham Lucas (knee) are both out for the remainder of Sunday's game.
Seattle (8-7) trails Pittsburgh (8-7) 24-17 headed into the fourth quarter.
DEC. 29 STEELERS' MASON RUDOLPH TO START AT QB AGAINST SEAHAWKS - It doesn't come as a shocker, but Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced after Friday's practice that Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback for Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon against the Seahawks at Lumen Field.
Both teams enter the crucial game 8-7 and needing a victory to improve their Wild Card chances in the NFC and AFC races.
Steelers' No. 1 quarterback Kenny Pickett told the media this week that feels healthy enough to play after undergoing ankle surgery Dec. 4. But Rudolph was impressive in last week's 34-11 over the Bengals, throwing for 290 yards and two touchdowns to George Pickens.
It remains unclear who will be Rudolph's backup for the game: Pickett or veteran Mitch Trubisky.
DEC. 18 MNF FEATURES DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES - While we're still not sure if both - or neither - quarterbacks Jalen Hurts (illness) and Geno Smith (groin) will suit up for tonight's Monday Night Football showdown between the Eagles and Seahawks, we're certain the game will feature two of the candidates for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Leading up to last year's draft most mocks had Seattle taking Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter. But leery of his off-field problems, the Seahawks instead took Illinois corner Devon Witherspoon at No. 5. Four picks later, the Eagles traded up to draft Carter.
Both players have had productive seasons, and are in the conversation for DROY along with Texans' edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr. Carter remains the betting favorite to win the award, with Witherspoon currently third.
A big play in a showcase game tonight could go a long way toward turning those odds ... and changing the playoff seeding for both teams.
DEC. 17 EAGLES QB JALEN HURTS QUESTIONABLE The Philadelphia Eagles may be facing the Seattle Seahawks without their MVP candidate.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, quarterback Jalen Hurts (illness) has been officially downgraded to questionable against the Seahawks.
Hurts' sickness worsened overnight and he is traveling separate from the team to try and not spread his sickness.
Kickoff between the Eagles and Seahawks is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. PT on Monday.
DEC. 16 EAGLES' QB JALEN HURTS MISSES PRACTICE - If the Seahawks showdown with the defending NFC champion Eagles was played Saturday night, we might be treated to Drew Lock vs. Marcus Mariota. Both team's starting quarterback - Seattle's Geno Smith and Philly's Jalen Hurts - are less than 100 percent.
But with the game not taking place until Monday night at Lumen Field, both Smith (groin) and Hurts (illness) are expected to play. While Smith missed last week's loss at San Francisco, Hurts was absent from the Eagles' Saturday practice but is scheduled to accompany the team to Seattle.
“I’m always going to push to play,” Smith said of his status. “I’m getting better every single day,” he said. “Been working around the clock just to try and get my body as healthy as possible to go out there and being able to play.”
The 10-3 Eagles need to win to keep in the running for the NFC's No. 1 playoff seed, while the 6-7 and reeling Seahawks - losers of four straight - must win to keep alive their Wild Card hopes.
DEC. 11 NINERS LONG-SNAPPER SENDS EXPLICIT MESSAGE TO SEAHAWKS' DK - The 49ers buried the Seahawks' NFC West chances with Sunday's 28-16 victory. And afterward, they danced on their rivals' grave in the form of some spicy sign language.
Late in the game in San Francisco, 49ers' linebacker Fred Warner intercepted a pass by Seahawks' quarterback Drew Lock. During the return, he lateraled the ball to teammate Dre Greenlaw. The play - with a 12-point lead and three minutes remaining - infuriated Seattle receiver DK Metcalf, who body-slammed Warner and grabbed his facemask after the tackle.
Metcalf was ejected. But his "punishment" continued afterward as in the 49ers' post-game locker room long-snapper Taybor Pepper directed a sign-language message to the receiver via social media.

Signing the message was an obvious jab at Metcalf, who’s drawn attention for celebrating and trash-talking to opponents via sign language this season.
DEC 10 LOCK STARTING Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Drew Lock will make his first start as a member of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium, as starting quarterback Geno Smith will be out due to a groin injury.
Smith entered Sunday with a questionable tag and was seen as a game-time decision. However, the Seahawks appeared to have made the decision earlier than expected, as Smith was not active during warmups over an hour before kickoff.
Lock's gotten some minimal action in two games this season when Smith had to be checked out for injury. Lock went a combined 4 of 12 passing for 66 yards and one interception in appearances against the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams.
DEC. 4 SLUMPING SEATTLE NEEDS TO BREAK 49ERS STREAK - There was a time not that long ago that the Seahawks owned the 49ers. That edge left, however, with Russell Wilson.
Seattle beat San Francisco 10 consecutives times from 2013-17 and won 14 of 17 in the series before Wilson was traded to the Broncos in 2021. Since then the tables have dramatically turned.
The Seahawks have lost four in a row to the Niners heading into Sunday's showdown in northern California, including a 31-13 drubbing on Thanksgiving night. The games haven't been close, with San Francisco winning by margins of 20, 8, 18 and 18.
With victories of 42-10 over the 9-3 Cowboys and 42-19 over the 10-2 Eagles, the Niners again look like the best team in the NFC. If the Seahawks are to find their way back to the playoffs - even as a Wild Card - Sunday's game is a must-win over a beat it suddenly hasn't been able to beat.
DEC. 3 PICKETT MAY MISS SEAHAWKS TILT - The Seattle Seahawks may face another backup quarterback as the season winds down.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury on Sunday in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and he's expected to miss 2-4 weeks, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Gerry Dulac.
The Steelers visit the Seahawks on Dec. 31, which is four weeks from the day of the injury. Given the playoff urgency, Pickett may look to return sooner, but it's certainly a storyline to keep an eye on.
NOV 30 ZACH CHARBONNET INJURED Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Zach Charbonnet had to exit in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Seahawks have officially listed him as doubtful to return due to a knee injury, as he reportedly was taken back to the locker room. He was making his second-career start in place of the injured Kenneth Walker.
Charbonnet went into the blue medical tent on the sideline after getting stopped short on a 4th and 1 with 7:04 left in the game.
Upon Charbonnet's exit to the sidelines, he had 19 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown to go along with one catch for 39 yards.
The Cowboys lead 38-35 in the fourth quarter.
NOV 30 SEAHAWKS ROSTER MOVES The Seattle Seahawks announced Thursday that they have activated offensive tackle Abraham Lucas from injured reserve and placed offensive guard Phil Haynes on IR ahead of tonight's matchup with the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
The Seahawks also elevated receiver Cody Thompson from the practice squad.
"He's back to where we're counting on him to be able to help and contribute," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Lucas Tuesday. "… Abe had a good week. Everything's kind of on schedule as we planned it out quite some time ago aiming for this week. He did his part."
NOV. 27 SEAHAWKS GET DEFENSIVE HELP IN 2024 DRAFT? - In the midst of a rougher patch that will likely get rougher in the near future, is it too soon for Seahawks fans to start peering into 2024?
Not only has 6-5 Seattle lost three of four - including a demoralizing home loss to the 49ers on Thanksgiving - but their next three games are against the best teams in the NFC in the 8-3 Cowboys, 8-3 Niners and 10-1 Eagles. Yikes, indeed.
It's enough to make fans daydream about next season. In that case, how about a peek at a 2024 mock draft?
The Seahawks currently own the 22nd overall pick next April, with Sports Illustrated projecting them to select Ohio State edge rusher J.T. Tuimoloau.
Says SI: "Trading for Leonard Williams filled the Seahawks' need for a dominant interior presence along the defensive front, but they could use another impact player on the edge who can make plays on all three downs. Tuimoloau is a complete player with the ideal skill set to defend both the run and pass."
NOV 23 BROOKS PICK-SIX Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks led a fired-up meeting on the sidelines with the defense in the first half of Thursday's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks found themselves down big in the first half before trailing 24-3 headed into the locker room, and Brooks clearly wasn't pleased.
But in the third quarter, it was Brooks who gave the Seahawks a much-needed touchdown after hauling in a deflected pass for a 12-yard interception return.
It marked Brooks' first-career interception and touchdown as an NFL player.

NOV 23 THANKSGIVING ROSTER MOVES The Seahawks are hopeful that Geno Smith plays in tonight's Thanksgiving vidit from the 49ers, but just in case ...
Quarterback Brett Rypien has been elevated from the practice squad, giving the Seahawks some "emergency'' quarterback depth with starter Geno dealing with his elbow injury.
Drew Lock is also ready as the No. 2 QB.
Seattle also activated defensive back Coby Bryant from IR ahead of the Thursday night game against the 49ers, with safety Jerrick Reed II, who tore his ACL in last weekend's game against the Rams, moving to IR to make room on the 53-man roster.
Rypien starred at Spokane's Shadle Park High School and at Boise State, and was signed to Seattle's practice squad earlier this month.
NOV. 20 MYERS MISSES CHANCE FOR SEAHAWKS TO AVOID CATASTROPHIC LOSS - The Seahawks were blowing leads of 13-0 and 16-7. Quarterback Geno Smith was injured. Things looked bleak for Seattle, but they could all be saved by the strong right leg of Jason Myers.
The reliable kicker was sent out for a game-winning, 55-yard field goal Sunday afternoon at SoFi Stadium. A lot had gone wrong for the Seahawks in the second half, but Myers had already made three field goals - including from 52 and 54 yards - and 32 times in his career had kicks of 50+
This one, however, sliced right of the upright, leaving Seattle with a devastating 17-16 loss to the NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams.
Myers made five field goals a week ago including the game-winner as time expired, and was the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. But this time, he failed.
Said Myers after the game, “Great snap, good hold. Just didn’t go through.”
NOV 19 GENO OUT, LOCK IN Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has been taken to the blue medical tent after taking a big hit in the backfield from Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
Smith landed hard on his shoulder on the play and was immediately taken off the field and onto the sidelines for further evaluation with what appeared to be an upper-body injury on his throwing arm.
Smith has been replaced in the lineup by Drew Lock and is currently questionable to return. At the time of the injury, Smith had completed 19 of 29 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown.

Seahawks safety Jerrick Reed was also sidelined with a knee injury, and will not return.
NOV 15 SEAHAWKS WEDNESDAY INJURY REPORT The Seattle Seahawks have revealed their Wednesday injury report ahead of Sunday's road meeting with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Seahawks had five players listed as out on Wednesday. Receiver Tyler Lockett (hamstring) and tight end Colby Parkinson (biceps) were DNP while safety Jamal Adams (knee), linebacker Jordyn Brooks (knee) and defensive end Leonard Williams (not injury related) were out due to rest.

OCT. 30 JAMAL ADAMS USES HEAD TO HELP SEAHAWKS' RALLY - When they needed a big takeaway Sunday against the Browns, Seahawks' star safety Jamal Adams used his big head. A deflected interception in the last two minutes turned out to be one of the biggest plays in Seattle's dramatic 24-20 victory.
The ball caromed off the head of Adams, winding up in the arms of safety Julian Love.
Joked Adams on Twitter: "Learned this one from Messi himself!!"
While soccer star Lionel Messi came to America and lit up Major League Soccer with a flurry of spectacular goals, Adams and the Seahawks will gladly settle for a comeback victory, a 5-2 record and first place in the NFC West.
OCT 29 JAKE BOBO TD Seattle Seahawks rookie receiver Jake Bobo scored his third touchdown of the season in Sunday's game againat the Cleveland Browns at Lumen Field, though this one came on the ground.
On the three-yard line, he took the end-around and cut upfield and into the end zone for a three-yard score. The Seahawks took a 7-0 lead before eventually scoring again to make it 14-0.

OCT. 23 BOBO MAKES NFL CATCH OF THE YEAR? - Everyone who watched Seattle's 20-10 victory over the Cardinals Sunday at Lumen Field realizes it was due in large part to the emergence of rookie receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jake Bobo. The pair caught eight passes for 124 yards and both of the Seahawks' touchdowns.
But as of Monday morning everyone in America's knows the rookie impact as well, as Bobo's leaping, one-hand, toe-tap, touchdown grab late in the second quarter is being heralded as the NFL's Catch of the Year.
Geno Smith's pass floated into the right corner of the end zone from 18 yards out. Bobo outjumped Cardinals defender Starling Thomas V, grabbed the ball with his right hand, absorbed a bump on the way down and somehow managed to acrobatically tap both feet inbounds. So outlandish was the catch that Thomas got up to emphatically celebrate what he was sure was an incompletion.
The play gave Seattle a 14-10 halftime lead. But it gave Bobo national credibility and recognition. The secret is now out on the undrafted receiver from UCLA.
OCT 22 SEAHAWKS INACTIVES The Seattle Seahawks have revealed their inactives list for Sunday's game at Lumen Field against the Arizona Cardinals, and there's some notable names set to be out. Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf, who entered Sunday as a game-time decision, will not play due to a hip and rib injury. It will be the first missed game of Metcalf's career.

OCT 19 INTERNATIONAL FLAGS You'll see some changes to some NFL helmets around the league for Weeks 7 and 8. Hundreds of players will add flag decals to their helmets representing the countries of their heritage.
The league has announced more than 330 players have committed to participate, representing 72 nations, with Nigeria being the most-represented foreign country, with 80 players committing to wear the Nigerian flag.
OCT 2 PHIL HAYNES OUT Seattle Seahawks offensive guard Phil Haynes has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday's game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium due to a calf injury.
Haynes exited in the first quarter and was replaced by rookie Anthony Bradford.
The Seahawks are already without starting offensive tackle Charlos Cross and Abraham Lucas, who were injured in Week 1's loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
SEPT. 25 SEAHAWKS' ROOKIE RB CHANNELS MARSHAWN LYNCH - The Seahawks provided plenty of fireworks in their victory over the Panthers Sunday, but none more explosive than rookie running back Zach Charbonnet lighting up Carolina's Sam Franklin Jr. during a fourth-quarter run.
Hello, Beast Mode 2.0. Somewhere, Marshawn Lynch is proud.
Charbonnet lowered his shoulder and sent the Panthers' safety flying and flailing into the end zone and onto his backside. The run quickly went viral on social media, eliciting such responses as:
"Charbonnet trucks a man!"
“Charbonnet sent the defender to another city.”
And from Seattle on Tap, “Charbonnet just went beast mode on them.”
SEPT 20 PANTHERS SIGN LB The Carolina Panthers found their replacement for the injured Shaq Thompson ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
Carolina has signed former Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones to the active roster, the team announced Wednesday.
He originally signed with Carolina in July but was released at the end of August. The Panthers then signed him to their practice squad.
SEPT 17 MULTIPLE SEAHAWKS WRS INJURED The Seattle Seahawks are getting hit with the early injury bug in Sunday's meeting with the Detroit Lions.
DK Metcalf is now officially questionable with a rib injury, per the team. Additionally, rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba went into the blue medical tent to get his leg looked at. Fortunately, he returned to the game.
But the concern now goes to Metcalf, as the Seahawks will need him in order to pull off the road win in Detroit.
SEPT 10 CHARLES CROSS INJURED VS RAMS Seattle Seahawks second-year offensive tackle is questionable to return to Sunday's season opener against the Los Angeles Rams due to a toe injury.
AUG 23 TRADE TREY? The San Francisco 49ers are giving Sam Darnold the No. 2 spot on the quarterback depth chart behind Brock Purdy ... and over Trey Lance - and now, as they attempt to trade dump Lance, the Niners and Kyle Shanahan are getting roasted for their mishandling of the situation ...
Including the blockbuster trade via the NFL Draft trade that is blowing up in their faces.
The Niners took Lance with the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but were only able to do so after giving Miami a massive haul of picks. To get that No. 3 pick, the Niners gave up the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the No. 29 and 102 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the No. 29 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
That's right: As the Seahawks try to chase the Niners in the NFC West, San Francisco will be reeling from having an empty cupboard ... and now, the Niners- having given up three first-round picks - are struggling to find a trade partner who will even bother to have Lance on their roster.
AUG 7 FIGHTS AND INJURIES Monday’s Seahawks workout at training camp featured a couple of conflicts and a couple of injury items. The bad news? Safety Joey Blount was carted off the practice field with what reportedly could be a back injury. Meanwhile, top rookie Devon Witherspoon did some work before finishing on the sideline with "a wrap on his leg,'' as the Seattle Times described it.
The Times also noted that in the padded work, the offense and defense engaged in a pair of scuffles - the first such conflicts of this camp - one of which features receiver Dee Eskridge in a dust-up vs. safety Jerrick Reed in which other players joined in.
JULY 1 UNFAIR TO RUSS The piling on of Denver QB Russell Wilson apparently has no limits. Bad player in 2022 after his trade away from Seattle? Yes. Out of shape? Maybe. Corny? Kinda. But a recent Twitter note about "NFL arrests'' should have nothing to do with Wilson ...
And yet, as our Mile High Huddle/SI guys in Denver point out, the "hate mob'' cannot help itself.
The subject is NFL arrests since 2000, and the Broncos figure prominently there. The tweet offers up a countdown ... and somehow Russell Wilson is the "cover guy'' for the rap-sheet list.
We don't believe Wilson - for whatever flaws he has as a player or even as a person - has ever been arrested. And hey, while the Seattle media and fans (including us) have not hesitated to point out his foibles ... making him the punchline for a century of a team's issues when he's only been there for one season of that century seems unfair.
Oh, by the way, as long as we're doing "Broncos on lists'' ... In the last quarter-century or so, Denver has gone to four Super Bowls. That should probably be noted somewhere as well.
FLUKER COMEBACK Free agent offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, the former Seahawks offensive lineman, has not played in the NFL since 2020. But after losing 40 pounds, he is working toward a comeback.
The Eagles recently worked out Fluker, and according to Jordan Schultz of theScore.com, the Patriots have done the same.
Fluker, who battled weight issues during his career, is apparently back down to 330 but with added weight-room strength.
The Chargers picked Fluker in the first-round in 2013, and he bounced around from there - but he has played in 108 games, with 96 starts. And maybe at age he’s not done yet.
“I just want a chance!” Fluker tells Schultz.
UDFA 2023 - The first 259 picks were just the beginning.

More freshmen are on their way to The Linc, as the Seahawks will be active alongside the rest of their NFL brethren in rookie free agency. Negotiations are already underway with players whose professional dreams remain active despite not hearing their name called at Union Station in Kansas City.
