Steelers Complete Scouting Trifecta on Joey Porter Jr.

The Pittsburgh Steelers finish their in-person scouting with Joey Porter Jr.

PITTSBURGH -- The largest group at the NFL Combine speaking with Penn State's Joey Porter Jr. were the Pittsburgh Steelers local media. It has been no secret the connection between the son of former outside linebacker Joey Porter and the team he grew up around, and the belief is strong that he's the pick at 17.

The Steelers met with Porter Jr. at the NFL Combine and had assistant general manager Andy Weidl, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and defensive backs coach Grady Brown at his Pro Day. Now, they're completing the trifecta with the Nittany Lion in South Side for a pre-draft visit.

Porter Jr. didn't run at his Pro Day but did post a 4.46 40-yard dash at the Combine.

Head coach Mike Tomlin has talked highly of Patrick Peterson since his signing, and one thing he alluded to during his press conferences has been Peterson being used as a mentor. If Porter Jr. is the selection at 17, he'll come to Pittsburgh with the ability to learn from a future Hall of Famer in Peterson and be close to his former NFL-star dad.
