Steelers Draft Favorites Remain Two Big-Name Cornerbacks

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still expected to be all-in at cornerback.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers went out and grabbed a future Hall of Famer to start at cornerback for their defense this season, but odds says it hasn't changed their NFL Draft plans.

At Bookies.com, the Steelers' most likely selections at pick 17 remain cornerback. And the two players at the top of the odds list right now are Penn State's Joey Porter Jr. (+250) and Illinois' Devon Witherspoon (+350).

Porter Jr. has remained a hot topic surrounding the Steelers NFL Draft board. Obviously, the family connection is there as Porter's father, Joey, played and coached in Pittsburgh. He also brings a local connection going to Penn State, and he seemingly fits the "star corner" need this team is in search of.

Witherspoon could be falling down the draft board, which could push him into the hands of the Steelers at pick 17. Because of a lingering hamstring injury, Witherspoon has not done drills at either the NFL Combine or Illinois Pro Day, and it's unknown if he will during private meetings for teams.

The Steelers signed All-Pro Patrick Peterson in free agency, but that doesn't seem to hold ground as a reason for them to change their expected draft plans.

If either of these two are available at 17, chances are one will end up in Pittsburgh.

After Porter and Witherspoon, Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright (+450) and Pitt defensive tackle Calijah Kancey (+500) are the favorites for the Steelers.
