Steelers' Minkah Fitzpatrick Will Play Just Week After Appendix Surgery

The Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro safety will play against the Bengals.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick does not have an injury tag on the team's final Week 11 report, indicating the All-Pro will play just eight days removed from an appendectomy.

Fitzpatrick underwent surgery on his appendix last Saturday after dealing with discomfort for several days. He was on the sideline for the game the next day but did not play. He then started running at the beginning of the week, and head coach Mike Tomlin said the team was "optimistic" he'd play.

Fitzpatrick was a full participant in the last two days of practice for the Steelers. He needed to be cleared by a doctor, which would be assumed to have happened, in order to play against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.

The Steelers are dealing with an injury to the secondary as cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. He has played just once, Week 8, since the injury occurred in Week 3.
