Steelers Nearing Deal With DB Keanu Neal

The Pittsburgh Steelers are close on signing safety Keanue Neal.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are closing in on a deal with free agent safety Keanu Neal, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac.

Neal started his in career in Atlanta as the Falcons’ first-round pick in 2016. After five years there, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys for one season and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.

Neal would bring 80 games, including 61 starts and three interceptions, to Pittsburgh. He’s also recorded 473 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and eight forced fumbles throughout his career.

According to Dulac, Neal would be viewed as a depth piece, assumingly behind Damontae Kazee. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the team would be adding another safety through free agency or the NFL Draft, and just 27 years old, Neal could clean the need for a draft pick.

The Steelers' safety room would include Kazee, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Tre Norwood and Miles Killebrew, and Neal, if he signed.
