Steelers Send Big Names to Joey Porter Jr.'s Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be keying in on two positions at Penn State's Pro Day.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are deep on the scouting trail, and are spending the day in Happy Valley for Penn State’s Pro Day. And with eyes on Joey Porter Jr., the team sent some big names to State College.

According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, assistant general manager Andy Weidl, defensive backs coach Grady Brown and tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts are all in attendance for Pittsburgh.

Austin and Brown are likely in Penn State to see Porter Jr. and safety Ji'Ayir Brown, who is likely a day two selection in the NFL Draft. The Steelers met with both players at the NFL Combine and have been interested in both positions this offseason.

As for Roberts, the Steelers are still looking for a backup tight end and the Nittany Lions will send a mid to late-round option in Brenton Strange to the draft next month.

The team has not re-signed Zach Gentry and currently has former Penn State star Pat Freiermuth and second-year player Connor Heyward on their roster.
