Presenters for eight members of Hall-of-Fame's Class of 2019 announced

Clark Judge

Presenters for the eight members of the Hall-of-Fame’s Class of 2019 have been announced, and they include four family members. What they don’t include are former teammates or players

Unusual? Not really. Last year’s class included four family members and no former players, while the Classes of 2017 and 2016 had six family members and only two players.

What does make this class extraordinary, however, is that one of the presenters is a former trainer – Denver’s Steve Antonopulos, who is the team’s director of sports medicine and who will introduce former Broncos’ owner Pat Bowlen. According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Antonopulos is the first trainer to make a presentation for induction since Buffalo’s Ed Abramoski, the Bills’ retired trainer, did it for Billy Shaw in 1999.

And the other seven? Let the roll call begin …

CHAMP BAILEY – Jack Reale, Bailey’s agent.

PAT BOWLEN – Antonopulos, who was the Broncos’ trainer for 38 years before he was promoted within the team in 2017.

GIL BRANDT – Jerry Jones, Cowboys’ Hall of Fame owner.

TONY GONZALEZ – Dennis Allen, Tony’s cousin and best friend.

TY LAW – Byron Washington, Law’s friend.

KEVIN MAWAE – Tracy Mawae, Kevin’s wife.

ED REED – Edward Reed Sr., Ed’s father.

JOHNNY ROBINSON – Bob Thompson, Johnny’s stepson.

The role of the presenter is to introduce the enshrinee by video and to accompany him during his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The presenter will join the inductee on stage when his Bronzed Bust is unveiled.

This year’s ceremony is Saturday, Aug. 3.
