Patrick D. Starr

The Houston Texans worked out cornerback Phillip Gaines on Tuesday at their facilities. The veteran cornerback played his college football locally at Rice University. The Texans continue to their due diligence on free agent players across the league to get a closer look.

He was a third-round pick (87th overall) out of Rice University by the Chiefs. Gaines last played for the Kansas City Chiefs (2014-2017), the Buffalo Bills (2018), and the Cleveland Browns (2018).

Gaines appeared in 52 career games with 22 starts, and he posted 138 total tackles. He also has 16 career pass deflections and one interception.
