2013 Texans WRs, Best in Team History?

DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson

DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson

The Houston Texans in 2013 might suit up potentiallytheir best ever wide receiver corps in franchise history. If everything falls rights for the Texans, the talent is there for this new look group of 2013.

The Texans will line up a wide receiver opposite Andre Johnson not named Kevin Walter for the first time since 2007 and opened the door for DeAndre Hopkins to be the heir apparent to Johnson in the coming seasons. General Manager Rick Smith started the youth movement at wide receiver in 2011 when he drafted DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin.

In 2013, Alan Bonner and Hopkins were added to the group to join the 11 year veteran in Johnson. Also, DeVier Posey will be starting the season on the PUP list according to reports but a late surge from him in 2012 showed promise for the young wide receiver.

Taking a look back at the Texans' wide receiver groups from 2002, the talent levels do not compare with what the 2013 group could be for the Texans. It all starts with Hopkins and what he displayed at Clemson with his big numbers against top competition. He already offers more play making ability at wide receiver on potential alone not named Andre Johnson.

Keshawn Martin and Lestar Jean are coming into another year in the offensive system and have taken positive steps in the early part of the offseason during OTAs. Matt Schaub finally has weapons at his disposal on the outside and a potential sleeper in rookie Alan Bonner. Bonner has a very raw skills set but he has shown flashes during OTAs of what he can do against NFL level talent.

Andre Johnson has shown he still has some left in the tank after a big 2012 season when he was a one man gang on the field. After posting 112 receptions with 1,598 yards, Johnson posed issues for defenses and now he has help in Hopkins and company.

The offensive packages the Texans can use with their new wide receivers can cause some issues. There are multiple combinations of wide receivers the Texans could use which should be fun to watch on game days.

Take a look at the past wide receiver groups in Texans history. It is not too hard to see the potential of this 2013 group compared to previous seasons.
